Shounen Jump+ Yomikiri Anime Adaptation Project Starts! WIT STUDIO, Production I.G, CONTRAIL to Produce

The manga magazine app “Shounen Jump+”, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2024, is currently running various commemorative projects. As part of these celebrations, a brand new initiative called the “Shounen Jump+ Yomikiri Anime Adaptation Project” has officially kicked off!

What is Shounen Jump+?

“Shounen Jump+” began service in September 2014. To date, it has produced popular works such as SPY×FAMILY, Kaijuu 8-gou, and Dandadan, surpassing a total of 30 million downloads.

The app distributes not only serialized manga but also many one-shot manga, with a total exceeding 2,000 works. Among these are buzzworthy titles that have been adapted into films, such as Look Back.

The Project and Participating Studios

This time, the “Shounen Jump+ Yomikiri Anime Adaptation Project” has started, where different studios will animate three one-shot manga works. By visualizing them in a form that suits each manga, without being restricted by episode counts or lengths, they aim to propose new forms of expression.

The participating studios are the three companies: WIT STUDIO, CONTRAIL, and Production I.G. WIT STUDIO is a studio that has brought manga-based anime like SPY×FAMILY and Shingeki no Kyojin to the world. CONTRAIL is the studio behind Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni, and Production I.G has delivered anime based on manga such as Haikyuu!! and Kaijuu 8-gou.

Production Details and Release

The planning for the project is handled by JOEN. JOEN is a production company established through a joint investment by CloverWorks and WIT STUDIO. They have been advancing project planning and production primarily led by the studios, working together with various studios, producers, and creators.

The first release for this project is planned for theatrical screening, and will be followed by worldwide distribution. Details regarding which one-shot works will be animated will be announced at a later date. This new challenge by “Shounen Jump+” and the anime production companies is definitely one to watch!
