The program featured appearances by Sakata Shougo (voicing Zenos), Nagase Anna (voicing Zofia), Kikuchi Sayaka (voicing Lewe), and Nakajima Yuuki (voicing Krishna). They looked back on the story so far and engaged in an enthusiastic discussion about their approaches to bringing their respective characters to life.
What the Cast Revealed About Voicing in Yami Healer? Sakata Shougo’s Unexpected “Weakness” Discovered?!

This work (abbreviated as Yami Healer) is a thrilling fantasy following Zenos, a genius healer who, lacking a healer’s license due to his unique healing magic style, is kicked out of his adventurer party. He then opens a clinic on the outskirts of the slums, helping the weak while extorting large sums from the strong. During the program, as they reviewed the story from his encounter with Riri, an elf girl who later becomes his assistant, to how Zofia, Lewe, and Krishna became his companions after visiting his clinic, the cast shared their specific methods for portraying their characters.
First, Nagase-san, who plays Zofia, the leader of one of the three major demi-human factions dominating the slums—the Lizardmen—described Zofia as “a person with unmatched power, but she considers everyone she acknowledges as a comrade.” She explained, “At first, she is very wary of Zenos, but after receiving treatment and acknowledging him, she interacts with him as a comrade. I was conscious of this emotional flow and changed my voice tone and speaking speed accordingly,” revealing how her performance shifted with Zofia’s emotional development.
Kikuchi-san and Nakajima-san also resonated with Nagase-san’s points. Kikuchi-san, who plays Lewe, the leader of the Orcs, another major demi-human faction, shared, “While usually portraying Lewe as ‘foolish yet full of confidence,’ I changed my voice tone to show his coolness when in conflict, aiming to create a dynamic gap.” Nakajima-san, who plays Krishna, the Vice-Captain of the Royal Guard, commented, “Krishna is a very stoic person whose expression barely changes, so I also tried to speak without changing my expression. From now on, as she becomes closer with everyone, you’ll see various sides of Krishna. I hope people will notice the difference between how she was before and how she expresses emotions later on.” They both emphasized paying attention to their characters’ hidden depths and transformations.

Then, during the segment where Sakata-san discussed his role, a behind-the-scenes story from the afureko studio came to light. Zenos, being a calm and collected character, often takes on the role of the straight man (tsukkomi) in the series, reacting to the others’ antics. Regarding his approach to playing Zenos, Sakata-san said, “When reacting [as the tsukkomi], sometimes really funny gags (boke) would come my way, and I’d think, ‘How should I retort to this?’ (laughs). While it’s good to react coolly all the time, I tried to slightly vary my tsukkomi to add dynamics to the story.” Hearing this, Nagase-san confessed, “Indeed, Sakata-san does a lot of ad-libbing! He’d add lines and sometimes even laugh to himself…!” exposing Sakata-san as a frequent ad-libber.
Furthermore, the female cast members complained, “We were desperately trying to hold back our laughter too!” to which Sakata-san became flustered. Afterwards, Sakata-san admitted, “I don’t really remember where I ad-libbed (laughs). Even when I watch the OA, I can’t tell.” He added, “But it’s true that I added things, especially in moments of surprise. I’d be happy if people notice those parts.”
After a thorough discussion about the work, they moved on to a segment titled “Fix and Solve the Mystery! Healer Challenge!”. In the series, Zenos, as the Yami Healer, heals various people. To give the female cast a taste of the healer experience, they were challenged to fix (repair) various items. The mystery derived from this task would then be presented to Sakata-san, who had to answer correctly for the challenge to succeed. However, it was here that Sakata-san’s surprising weakness was revealed?! Would the challenge be a success?
