Popular Comedy Duo Kuukikadan Joins the Cast of “LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE Fushimi no Ketsuzoku”

It has been announced that the popular comedy duo Kuukikadan will make a guest appearance in the film `LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE Fushimi no Ketsuzoku`, which is set for nationwide release on June 27, 2025.

This film marks a significant return after approximately 30 years, being the first completely new 2D theatrical anime feature since `Lupin Sansei DEAD OR ALIVE`. The story unfolds on a mysterious, uncharted island. Lupin and his companions embark on a treasure hunt, only to find themselves confronted by an enigmatic presence known as the “Undying Kin” (Fushimi no Ketsuzoku). Portrayed with unprecedented scale and drama, this ultimate tale serves as a foundational story, connecting to all of “Lupin Sansei”.

The film is based on the original work by Monkey Punch. Koike Takeshi, who has directed all of the “Lupin Sansei” series films and is highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally for his stylish direction, returns to direct. The script is penned by Takahashi Yuuya, and the music is composed by James Shimoji. The theme song is “The IIIRD Eye,” a new track written specifically for the film by B’z. The familiar main cast includes Kurita Kanichi as Lupin Sansei, Ootsuka Akio as Jigen Daisuke, Namikawa Daisuke as Ishikawa Goemon XIII, Sawashiro Miyuki as Mine Fujiko, and Yamadera Kouichi as Inspector Zenigata. Additionally, Kataoka Ainosuke joins as Mutom, Lupin’s greatest foe, and Morikawa Aoi as Sarifa, a mysterious girl. This “Lupin Sansei Nobody Knows” is finally set to appear on the big screen.

It has been revealed that the two members of the comedy duo Kuukikadan, Suzuki Mogura and Mizukawa Katamari, will voice the eerie “Garbage Humans” who inhabit the “uncharted island” in the Bermuda Triangle that Lupin and his gang venture into. Formed in 2012, the duo boasts impressive achievements, including winning the “King of Conte” competition in 2021. In recent years, they have also expanded their activities into voice acting. They both appeared in the anime film `Shin Jigen! Crayon Shin-chan THE MOVIE Chou Nouryoku Daikessen ~Tobetobe Temakizushi~` (2023), and Mogura also handled dubbing work for `Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire` (2024). Known for their wildly unconventional skits featuring strong characters, these two, with their remarkable expressive abilities and growing presence, will now portray the grotesque beings who push Lupin and his group into unprecedented peril.

Upon the decision of their guest voice appearances, the duo shared their joy. Mogura, who voices Ruuou, a character with an exposed mechanical body and an unusually long neck, expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Lupin world, stating, “I had not imagined in the slightest that I would ever have a life where I could participate in Lupin Sansei.” Meanwhile, Katamari, who plays Fuuwa, a character in a suit and sunglasses with a giant mechanized hand capable of unleashing scorching power, revealed, “I put my heart and soul into the voice recording as MIZUKAWA THE IIIRD,” signifying his resolve to showcase a new side of himself as a voice actor.

An interview video reflecting on their earnest (or perhaps not?) recording session has also been released. Mogura, who portrays a character confronting Lupin, spoke passionately about his role, saying, “The sound director told me to seriously blow Lupin away!” revealing his strong dedication to the part. On the other hand, Katamari felt he discovered new possibilities, commenting, “Talking with the sound director helped me find a voice I didn’t know I had.” He added with humor but a direct gaze, “In the future, if I’m ever invited to give a lecture, I’d like to call the director again for guidance.”

Furthermore, if asked what special skill they would showcase if they were to join the Lupin team, Mogura immediately responded, “An imitation of a fart. I’d use it to shake off Zenigata.” Not to be outdone, Katamari also offered a bizarre reply, displaying their true nature as comedians: “Being able to guess a person’s blood type. When the Lupin group has free time, I’d liven up the team with this bit.”

These “Garbage Humans,” though appearing human, possess a distinctly alien presence. Will Kuukikadan be able to “steal” the audience’s hearts with their voice acting? Expectations are high for this unexpected facet of their talent.

Additionally, new scene cuts offering a glimpse into the film’s world have been released, revealing the mysterious island.
