『Kusuriya no Hitorigoto』 is an anime based on the popular novel series by Hyuuga Natsu. The story is set in the intricate world of the imperial court, focusing on Maomao, a young pharmacist who finds herself serving as a “poison taster.” Using her extensive knowledge of poisons and medicine, Maomao cleverly solves various difficult cases that occur within the palace walls. It’s a fascinating mystery entertainment series set in the imperial court!
The series has also been adapted into manga, serialized in both 「Big Gangan」 (published by Sukuwea Enikkusu) and 「Sunday GX」 (published by Shouggakukan). The combined circulation for the series has surpassed an impressive 40 million copies! The TV anime first aired for two consecutive cours starting in October 2023. It quickly gained immense popularity for Maomao’s sharp reasoning, her unique love for poisons, and the often comical interactions between her and the enigmatic palace official, Jinshi. The show even reached the top spot on X (formerly Twitter) trends! The second season began airing for two consecutive cours starting in January 2025 and has been building even more momentum.
