Additionally, a Japanese dubbed clip showcasing Elio meeting Wuuwuuwuuwuuwuu in the コミュニバース (Communiverse), where Elio is invited, has also been unveiled.

About Hoshitsunagi no Erio

『星つなぎのエリオ』 (Hoshitsunagi no Erio) tells a touching fantasy adventure story about a lonely protagonist, Elio, who finds his true place and precious connections light-years away on a distant star. Elio, who feels like he doesn’t fit in anywhere and believes “my place must be somewhere else,” dreams of one day traveling light-years away to a distant star in search of his “true home” somewhere in the vast universe.

One day, his wish comes true, and Elio is invited to the Communiverse, a place where representatives from various stars gather. There, he meets グロードン (Guroodon), a lonely alien boy who says, “I’ve always wanted a friend.” Elio connects with Guroodon, who says, “I like you just the way you are,” but eventually, a threat approaches that could tear their bond apart…

From this film, the Japanese voice cast for the unique characters who bring miracles to protagonist Elio’s adventure has been revealed, including Noro Kayoo, comedian Mayurika no Nakatani, Seki Tomokazu, Sawashiro Miyuki, Yasuhara Yoshito, and Koyasu Takehito.

Meet the Japanese Voice Cast!

Noro Kayoo as Wuuwuuwuuwuuwuu

Noro Kayoo takes on the role of Wuuwuuwuuwuuwuu, the high-tech helpful computer who serves as a guide in the Communiverse, the dream-like place connecting various stars where representatives from different star systems gather. With a liquid, teardrop-like form, Wuuwuuwuuwuuwuu supports Elio’s life in the Communiverse with various abilities and is a cute character who sometimes makes sarcastic remarks.

Noro-san is a huge Disney fan, having worked as a cast member at Tokyo DisneySea before entering the entertainment world. She won the role of a Pixar voice actor through a US audition. Reflecting on being chosen to voice Wuuwuuwuuwuuwuu, she said, “I was incredibly happy. I was so happy that when I saw a trailer for a different movie in the theater, I thought, ‘I’m going to be a voice actor too,’ and tears just naturally flowed. I loved Disney so much that I used to work as a cast member at Tokyo DisneySea, so it felt deeply moving.”

Furthermore, regarding the film’s depiction of Elio and Guroodon’s friendship, she commented, “I teared up at their friendship. Both of them carry various thoughts and feelings while living, and there was a powerful sense of mutual assistance and love that I could really feel intuitively. I’m often helped by my friends too, so feeling that aspect resonated deeply with my heart.”

Mayurika no Nakatani as Merumakku

Mayurika no Nakatani, a comedian, plays Merumakku, a subordinate of Elio’s aunt Oruga and a radio enthusiast (or radio otaku). While working on satellite research at a military base, Merumakku caused chaos by claiming to have received messages from aliens, resulting in his suspension. However, his passion leads to a “miracle” that becomes the catalyst for Elio’s dream of “traveling light-years away to a star,” making him a crucial character.

Having passed a US audition to win the voice acting role, Nakatani-san revealed his feelings upon being selected: “When I first heard about the audition, I honestly thought it was a prank. It was a surprise that would make not just me, but also everyone around me happy, even my parents were delighted. I felt like this would definitely be one of those life memories I’d recall before I die.”

About the character Merumakku, whom he played, he said, “Merumakku is the kind of character that nobody could possibly dislike. Even if I hadn’t gotten the audition offer, if someone asked me who I’d want to play in this movie, I’d say Merumakku because he’s a character loved by everyone. He also has an important role in the story, so I felt it was a really rewarding part.”

Seki Tomokazu as Herikkusu

Seki Tomokazu voices Herikkusu, the ambassador from Planet Faluubinamu and a veteran member of the Communiverse. He always carries Guroopu, a drink loved by everyone in the Communiverse, and is a warm, cheerful character with a slightly pompous side. Seki-san commented on the film, “I had fun playing Ambassador Herikkusu, who is a veteran of the Communiverse and both warm and adorable. I felt the universal messages of compassion, kindness, and courage from the work, and my heart grew warm even during recording. Please look forward to it.”

Sawashiro Miyuki as Kuesuta

Sawashiro Miyuki plays Kuesuta, the ambassador from Planet Goomu and one of the highest-ranking executives in the Communiverse. Kuesuta, who possesses a healing voice, is very wise and dignified, yet also kind and curious towards everyone. Furthermore, she has the ability to read minds, helping to solve complex problems in the Communiverse.

Sawashiro-san sent a message to fans looking forward to the film, saying, “There are many aliens in this movie, and she is one of them (or perhaps one alien?). She’s very interested in beings different from herself, and also sometimes feels, ‘Isn’t being different scary after all…!’ While recording, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m no different.’ Perhaps everyone feels this way. What about you…? I hope to share this movie with as many people as possible.”

Yasuhara Yoshito as Tegumen

Yasuhara Yoshito voices Tegumen, the ambassador from Planet Tegumegu, who looks like a brown stone with a round face. Tegumen has a sturdy appearance and is taciturn, but thinks logically about things. Yasuhara-san appealed, “The theme is ‘encounters.’ A wonderful story, visuals, and actors. If I haven’t dragged it down, it must have become a truly incredible masterpiece. You can look forward to it without regret. See you at the theater.”

Koyasu Takehito as the Universal User Manual

Koyasu Takehito voices the Universal User Manual, created by the peace-loving ambassador Oova. This manual, voiced by Watanabe Naomi in the US original version, was created as an entity that can answer any cosmic mystery or secret. It has a unique appearance, with many manuals gathered together like cards, able to transform into various shapes.

Koyasu-san commented on the film, “I was so drawn into the heartwarming story that I almost forgot I was there for work (lol). My part isn’t extensive, but I play a role that gives valuable advice with a touch of comedy. I hope it stays in everyone’s memory. Go! Go! to the movie theater!” He revealed that he played a unique character. With such a luxurious lineup of voice actors, what kind of roles will these unique characters play in the film? You’ll definitely want to find your favorite character.
