Dandadan Season 2 Advance Screening Event Report: Mayumi Tanaka Already “Looking Forward to Season 3”!? Shion Wakayama, Natsuki Hanae, and Kaito Ishikawa Also Highlight the Series’ Appeal!
The second season of the TV anime Dandadan is set to premiere on July 3, 2025, airing on the MBS/TBS network across 28 stations within the “Super Animeism TURBO” block. Ahead of its broadcast, a special advance screening event was held in Tokyo. Attending the event were the main cast members: Wakayama Shion (voicing Momo), Hanae Natsuki (voicing Okarun), Ishikawa Kaito (voicing Jiji), and Tanaka Mayumi (voicing Taabo Babaa). The cast enthusiastically shared their thoughts on the overflowing charm of Dandadan, reminisced about the recording sessions, and even voiced their hopeful appeals for a potential third season!

Looking Forward to Season 2
Expressing her current feelings with the Season 2 broadcast drawing near, Wakayama Shion smiled and commented, “It felt like a long time, but also really quick. When Season 1 ended, I strongly felt, ‘When will Season 2 be here? When?’ But now that it’s almost starting, it feels so fast. Still, the feeling of ‘Everyone will get to see it!’ is really strong, so I’m incredibly excited for the broadcast.”

Tanaka Mayumi praised the continuation, saying, “Season 1 ended at such an amazing point, didn’t it? So I was looking forward to the continuation, but after seeing the Season 2 footage, it exceeded my expectations and hit me with a bang!” She then eagerly showed her enthusiasm for more, adding, “I’m already looking forward to Season 3! It’s definitely happening! Right!?”
Hanae Natsuki addressed the audience who had enjoyed the footage early, asking, “Isn’t Season 2 scary?” Seeing many audience members nod in agreement, he explained, “This time, the directing team is a two-person system, with Abel Gongora joining newly. It’s a combination of the best ideas from both Abel Gongora and Yamashiro Fuga.” He also touched upon the staff’s intense passion, mentioning the thought put into the character coloring and the animation techniques used to bring the scenes depicted in the original manga to life.
Focus on Characters and Recording
Regarding Jiji, who will be a central figure in the first half of Season 2, Ishikawa Kaito left a tantalizing comment: “In Season 1, Jiji was in a position where you’d wonder if he’d become friends with Okarun, but he turned into more of a love rival. However, in Season 2, I think it will finally depict the part where their friendship becomes proper… or does it? You’ll have to see.”
Responding to Ishikawa Kaito’s remarks, Hanae Natsuki shared his initial impression, “At first, I thought he was a hateful guy. He’d get in the way just when Momo and Okarun were getting close. Plus, he’s handsome (laughs).” However, he reflected on Jiji in Season 2, saying with feeling, “He’s a good guy.”

Speaking about the recording sessions, Wakayama Shion mentioned that there was a bit of time between Season 1 and Season 2, causing her some anxiety about being able to recapture the characters’ rhythm. However, she stated, “As soon as the back-and-forth started, I was instantly back in the world of Dandadan. I didn’t need to worry that much; everyone pulled me along, and I was able to record happily.”

On the other hand, Ishikawa Kaito revealed, “I was told to perform with a kind of ‘smoky’ depth, like in a *ninkyoo* film.” He confessed that he was given titles of older movies he hadn’t seen as examples for direction, saying, “I studied those works by the next week and came to the recording session prepared,” reflecting on how he approached the recording with intense dedication.

Thereafter, the talk about the work was inexhaustible. In relation to Kitoo Naki, who is called the “Strongest Babaa of the Kitoo family” and appears from Season 2, a question was posed to Tanaka Mayumi, who plays the leading role as the powerful Taabo Babaa: “Is there anything about this *babaa* that you think you won’t lose to?” To this question, Tanaka Mayumi praised the overwhelming performance, stating, “Naki, played by Isobe Masako, is terrifying. Since she’s been a leading stage actress for so long, her presence is incredible. Tanaka Mayumi and Mizuki Nana are no match for Isobe Masako.”
Finally, regarding the highlights, Wakayama Shion said, “Many unique and intense characters appear in Season 2, but they are all wonderfully depicted, making it truly ‘Dandadan’ at its finest! I hope everyone will love these characters and enjoy Dandadan to the fullest.”
Hanae Natsuki built anticipation, stating, “We’ve had many unique characters before, but in Season 2, characters that make you think ‘this one is crazy in a different way’ will appear, so I really want everyone to see it soon.”
The TV anime Dandadan Season 2 is scheduled to air every Thursday at 0:26 AM JST starting July 3, 2025, on the MBS/TBS network across 28 stations within the “Super Animeism TURBO” block.
