Get ready, fans! The light novel series Geeto SEASON2: Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri is officially getting a TV anime adaptation under the same title. It’s been a decade since the first season aired back in July 2015, and now the sequel is set to bring the adventure back to the screen. Alongside the announcement, a concept visual has been released, and comments have arrived from original author Yanai Takumi and the production staff.
The Geeto series, including Geeto SEASON2: Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, is a thrilling “isekai x Self-Defense Force fantasy” penned by Yanai Takumi, which began serialization in 2006 and has surpassed 7.3 million copies sold across the series. The first installment, Geeto: Jieitai Kare no Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, which focused on the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), was adapted into a two-cour TV anime series titled GATE: Jieitai Kare no Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri that aired from 2015 to 2016.
This sequel, Geeto SEASON2: Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, shifts the focus to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The story unfolds across the vast ocean of the other world, promising gripping naval battles, tense diplomatic situations, and a grand “military fantasy x isekai” narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Announced at the milestone 10th anniversary of the original TV anime’s broadcast, GATE SEASON2: Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri boasts a talented team. Takahashi Tooru, known for directing Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha., is helming the project. The series composition and script are handled by Urabata Tatsuhiko, who also worked on the previous season. Character designs are by Fujita Shigeru, acclaimed for their work on MONSTER, PLUTO, and Sammua Woozu.
The animation production is being handled by Studio M2, the studio behind the Netflix-distributed anime PLUTO. Furthermore, GENCO, which has been involved with the GATE series previously, as well as titles like PLUTO and Soodo Aato Onrain, is teaming up as a production partner.
Notably, the production of this project is being led by Kasagi Labo and Oshi, a company operating fan communities. Through the “Oshi” fan community, fans worldwide will have a unique opportunity to support the anime’s production and experience the process firsthand. The aim is to closely connect fans and creators through online events and behind-the-scenes peeks into the anime’s creation.

During that time, together with the original author Yanai Takumi-sensei, we have steadily built towards the realization of a second season anime adaptation, step by step. I believe we could not have reached this point without the passionate cheers and long-standing support from the fans.
And finally, we have reached the day when we can officially announce the production decision for the anime GATE Season 2!
In this work, GATE SEASON2: Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, the “sea” becomes a crucial theme as the new stage. To pursue realism grounded in reality and detailed depictions within the overwhelming fantasy world of the other realm, we conducted thorough research with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The entire staff is working with all our might to deliver a visual experience that vividly crosses the boundary between fantasy and reality.
