A Sequel to the Anime ‘Kusuriya no Hitorigoto’ Has Been Decided! Super Teaser PV Including Hints for a New Story Released, Yuuki Aoi-san & Ootsuka Takeo-san Also Comment “We are Happy”

It has been officially decided that a sequel to the anime ‘Kusuriya no Hitorigoto’ will be produced. This announcement was made upon the conclusion of the TV anime’s second season. A super teaser PV containing numerous hints for the new story has also been released. Additionally, celebratory comments have arrived from the original author Hinata Natsu-sensei, Maomao’s voice actor Yuuki Aoi-san, and Jinshi’s voice actor Ootsuka Takeo-san.

‘Kusuriya no Hitorigoto’ is a palace mystery entertainment series set in the inner palace, depicting a young girl who serves as a “poison taster” and solves various difficult cases. The series has surpassed 40 million copies in total circulation. TV anime Season 2, which began airing in January 2025, consistently ranked high on various streaming platforms and saw significant excitement, with posts featuring the work’s hashtags buzzing on social media with each broadcast.
On July 4th, the final episode, Episode 48, titled “Hajimari,” was broadcast. Even before the broadcast, there were many voices expressing regret such as “I can’t believe it’s the final episode. Two cours went by too fast…” and “There’s definitely a sequel, right?!”. Following the episode’s conclusion, the decision for sequel production was announced.

Season 2 kicked off with new developments blowing in, including Consort Tamayouhi’s pregnancy, Shouran taking a new step forward, and the arrival of foreign envoys. However, behind the scenes, the past and darkness of the inner palace stirred. Before Maomao knew it, she was embroiled in a major incident that even shook the nation: the rebellion of the Ko clan. Jinshi confronted his own origins, leading the Forbidden Army as the imperial brother and suppressing the Ko clan. For now, the story concluded with this Episode 48, “Hajimari.”

The super teaser PV released alongside the sequel announcement begins with a scene of Jinshi receiving a paper from Loukan inside a fort. Numerous scenes and keywords providing hints for the sequel are scattered throughout, accompanied by the words of Maomao and Jinshi. What do the words “The stage moves to a new land” and the spreading wheat field signify? Attention is drawn to future updates regarding what kind of story will be depicted in the sequel.

Towards the sequel, a comment was received from the original author Hinata Natsu-sensei, raising further anticipation: “Seasons 1 and 2 were originally meant to cover four volumes of the novel. And now, the continuation… This puts a lot of pressure on me to create content that makes people think it’s going to become even more and more interesting. I will reconfirm if anything is missing from the story while also providing support to the anime team.”
