Episode 13 Recap
In episode 13, Momo was enjoying an 温泉 (onsen/hot spring) bath when she was suddenly attacked by the men of the Kitou family. Saving her from this predicament was Taabo Babaa, who had secretly snuck into Momo’s bag and followed her.
Starting the second season with Momo in trouble, fans on social media were quick to react with comments like, “Here comes the fanservice already!”, “Momo, run!”, and “Nice one, Taabo Babaa!”.
When Momo asked Taabo Babaa about Jiji’s house, she replied, “That house is no good anymore. It’s soaked too much in human blood.”
Meanwhile, at Jiji’s house, Okarun and Jiji were panicking after punching a hole in the wall. Beyond it was a hidden room completely covered floor-to-ceiling in talismans. The two decided not to enter for now and wait for Momo to return.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Jiji, thinking it was Momo, opened the front door. Standing outside were Naki and other members of the Kitou family.
It turns out Jiji’s house was borrowed from the Kitou family, who were waiving the rent while his parents were hospitalized. The Kitou family made themselves comfortable in Jiji’s house and began interrogating him about why he wasn’t home…
Meanwhile, Momo encountered a mysterious priest doing a headstand at a shrine dedicated to a Tsui no Ko. When she spoke to the priest, she learned that the town had offered children as sacrifices to a “Great Serpent” for generations to appease a volcanic eruption.
Thinking of revisiting the place with Okarun, who loves occult stories, Momo returned home only to find Okarun and Jiji beaten and battered from being assaulted by the Kitou family members.
“The offerings are finally gathered. Let’s begin the festival,” said Naki. Resistance from Momo was met with Naki’s overwhelming power, which blew her away. In the process, she broke through the wall and fell into the room of talismans…
Curious about the true identity of Naki, who possesses great power, Momo asked Taabo Babaa, who simply replied, “Just a strong old lady.” This prompted comments from viewers like “Just a strong old lady LOL,” and “So she’s not a yokai or anything?!”
Listening to Naki’s story, it was the Kitou family who had offered sacrifices to the Great Serpent. Furthermore, the very location of Jiji’s house was the “altar” where these offerings were made.
Caught in the turmoil, Okarun, Momo, and Jiji fell deep into the room of talismans along with the Kitou family members. There, they encountered what was thought to be the “Great Serpent-sama,” believed to be just a superstition… or so they thought. According to Taabo Babaa, “That’s a ‘Kuragari’.”
Okarun seemed to recognize it as well. According to his favorite book “Poe,” a “Kuragari” is a “giant cannibalistic worm cryptid inhabiting the Gobi Desert.” Normally, their length is about 1.5 to 2 meters, but because the Kitou family had offered sacrifices to it for 200 years, it had grown to an astonishing size. The three tried to escape being eaten, but Okarun and Momo started acting strangely after being hit by a mysterious light…
On social media, reactions included, “It’s a worm?! LOL,” “They were worshipping a worm all this time, huh?”, “What happened to Okarun?!”, and “Can’t wait to see what happens next!”.
