Anime “Kaijuu 8-gou”: Reno and Iharu Tail Hoshina, Who Seems Unusual…? Special Episode Preview Cuts

Ahead of the highly anticipated Season 2 of the summer anime Kaijuu 8-gou, the synopsis and preview cuts for the special episode “Hoshina no Kyuujitsu” have been released. This special episode is set to broadcast on terrestrial TV and stream worldwide in real-time on X (formerly Twitter) starting July 5th, 2025.

About Kaijuu 8-gou

Kaijuu 8-gou is a thrilling kaijuu battle action manga by Matsumoto Naoya, serialized in Shueisha’s manga app Shounen Jump+ since July 2020. With 15 volumes currently published (including digital editions), the series boasts a cumulative domestic circulation exceeding 18 million copies.

The story is set in a world where giant kaijuu constantly threaten the populace. Hibino Kafka, a man who works for a company specializing in cleaning up kaijuu remains, once dreamed of joining the Nihon Boueitai (Japan Self-Defense Force) to fight these creatures. Just as he starts chasing this dream again, a mysterious small kaijuu transforms him into a being with immense power – a kaijuu himself. Dubbed “Kaijuu 8-gou” and pursued by the entire nation, Kafka refuses to give up on his dream of becoming a Defense Force member and continues to confront kaijuu disasters.

The Anime Adaptation

The TV anime adaptation of Kaijuu 8-gou features animation production by Production I.G and kaijuu design & works by Sutajio Kuraa. Season 1 aired from April 13, 2024, on the TV Tokyo network and other channels, and was also streamed worldwide in real-time on X, generating immense excitement across the globe. With the broadcast and streaming of Season 2 scheduled to begin on July 19th, the series continues to capture significant attention.

Introducing “Hoshina no Kyuujitsu”

“Hoshina no Kyuujitsu” is a special episode that received a wide theatrical release in over 30 countries and regions worldwide starting March 28th. It garnered significant positive feedback, having been screened simultaneously with the Season 1 compilation film.

Synopsis: “Hoshina no Kyuujitsu”

A holiday – a brief moment of peace for Defense Force members… Ichikawa Reno, having forgotten how to enjoy a day off after his rigorous training regime, senses an unusual aura emanating from Hoshina Soushirou, who is also off duty.

Together with Furuhashi Iharu, Reno decides to embark on a tailing operation, but the situation takes an unexpected turn…

Broadcast and Streaming Information

The Kaijuu 8-gou special episode “Hoshina no Kyuujitsu” will air on the TV Tokyo network from 23:00 JST on Saturday, July 5th, and will also be streamed worldwide in real-time on X. Following the TV broadcast, it will sequentially become available on various streaming platforms from 23:30 JST onwards (Note: Start times may vary depending on the service).

Season 2 Broadcast/Streaming:

• Terrestrial Broadcast: TV Tokyo network and others starting July 5th (Saturday) at 23:00 JST (Note: July 5th will be “Hoshina no Kyuujitsu”, July 12th a pre-broadcast special, and Season 2 begins July 19th).
