Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Anime Sequel is Officially Happening!
The Big Announcement
Get ready for more palace intrigue and mystery! The exciting news dropped following the broadcast of the 24th and final episode of the **Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 2nd Season** television anime series. It was officially announced that a sequel is now in production. To celebrate, a “super” teaser promo was also revealed, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.
About the Anime Series
The anime adaptation of **Kusuriya no Hitorigoto** first premiered in Fall 2023. This initial run spanned 24 episodes and was a joint production between studios **OLM** and **TOHO animation STUDIO**. The second season began airing on January 10, continuing the captivating story that has charmed viewers. Crunchyroll has been simulcasting the series with subtitles for audiences worldwide, outside of Asia.
The Story’s Origins
The anime is based on the popular medical mystery novel written by **Natsu Hyuuga**. The series originally started its life on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website back in October 2011. Shufunotomo later published it as a single novel volume in September 2012. Following its popularity, Shufunotomo began reprinting it under their Hero Bunko label as a light novel series, featuring illustrations by **Touko Shino**, starting in August 2014. The latest volume, the 16th in the series, was released on May 30.
Manga Adaptations
The story of **Kusuriya no Hitorigoto** has also inspired multiple manga adaptations. The first manga, illustrated by **Nekokurage**, began serialization in Monthly Big Gangan magazine in May 2017. Square Enix publishes this version, and its 15th volume was released on March 25. A second manga adaptation, drawn by **Minoji Kurata**, started in Sunday Gene-X magazine in August 2017. This version saw its 20th volume go on sale on May 19.
English Releases
For fans outside of Japan, the source material is also available! J-Novel Club has licensed the original light novel series for English release. They offer digital editions and published the 14th volume on May 30, with the 15th volume scheduled for a September 12 release. Square Enix Manga & Books handles the English license for **Nekokurage’s** manga adaptation. The 13th volume of this manga was shipped on March 4, and the 14th volume is slated for release on October 7.
