Evangerion Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Huge pixiv Collaboration Event!
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Evangerion series, the illustration, manga, and novel submission platform “pixiv” has launched several fan-participation projects. These include an illustration contest and a senryu (short poem) contest, along with limited-time special effects to add an “A.T. Field” style touch and the platform’s first-ever collaboration app icon.
The History of Evangerion
The TV series Shin Seiki Evangerion, which first aired in 1995, became a social phenomenon. Starting in 2007, the series was rebooted as the Evangerion Shin Gekijouban series, with Anno Hideaki serving as planner, scriptwriter, and general director. The first three films, :Jo, :Ha, and :Q, were released and became massive hits.
In March 2021, after being postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shin Evangerion Gekijouban, the fourth and final film in the New Theatrical Edition series, was released. It grossed a final box office revenue of 10.28 billion yen and attracted 6.73 million viewers. The series consistently gains new fans and enjoys broad support across various demographics.
Exciting Fan Contests on pixiv
In celebration of this beloved work’s 30th anniversary, the pixiv collaboration includes the “Evangerion 30th Anniversary Illustration Contest”. This contest broadly invites submissions that freely express the world of Evangerion, including scenes from the series, group illustrations, and characters in casual clothes.
Winning entries will be displayed at the 30th-anniversary event “EVANGELION:30+； 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION,” which will be held from February 21st to February 23rd, 2026. They are also planned to be included in the art book “Evangerion x pixiv Fanartillust collection 2 (tentative title)”.
Also, the “Let’s Compose Together! Evangerion Senryu” contest calls for submissions that humorously capture characters, famous lines, or memorable scenes using the five-seven-five syllable rhythm of senryu. Winning entries for this contest will also be displayed at the “EVANGELION:30+； 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION” event. When submitting, participants can utilize the Evangerion collaboration novel cover specifically designed for the senryu contest.
Other Special Features
This is in addition to the Evangerion collaboration pixiv Novel Image Maker, which lets users easily process their novel works for social media posting, the Evangerion A.T. Field Effect, which adds a “A.T. Field-style” visual effect from the series to submitted works, and a special collaboration app icon, a first for pixiv, all available for a limited time.
