Get Ready for More Horror! New Itou Junji Anime Series, Itou Junji: Crimson, Announced!

Horror fans, rejoice! During Japan Expo 2025, Crunchyroll dropped some chilling news: a brand-new anime series based on the terrifying works of manga legend Itou Junji is officially in the works.

Titled Itou Junji: Crimson, this upcoming series is set to be the third installment in the anime anthology adaptations of Itou Junji’s chilling stories, following the previous hits. Get ready for more mind-bending and unsettling tales brought to life on screen!

Continuing the Anthology Tradition

Itou Junji: Crimson joins the ranks of earlier anime series that delved into the master’s vast library of horror. The first was Itou Junji: Collection, which adapted stories primarily from Itou Junji Kessaku-shuu (also known as Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) and Ma no Kakera (Fragments of Horror) manga. Produced by Studio Deen, that series ran for 12 episodes from January to March 2018. Crunchyroll streamed Collection, offering it with both English subtitles and a dub.

More recently, Itou Junji: Maniac brought even more terrifying tales to the screen. This series, which also adapted stories from his collection, premiered in January 2023 and was available for streaming worldwide on Netflix, complete with English subtitles and dub options.

Now, Itou Junji: Crimson is set to add another layer of horror to this growing collection. Crunchyroll has announced they will stream this new series worldwide, ensuring fans globally can experience the frights.

Adding to the atmosphere, the opening theme song for Itou Junji: Crimson will be “Karasuageha,” performed by the talented singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya. You might also know her work from films like Majo no Takkyuubin and Kaze Tachinu.
