The TV anime Gaishin-den Samurai Troopers, a direct sequel to the beloved Yoroiden Samurai Troopers anime series, is officially set to begin broadcasting in January 2026! Fans can now rejoice as a remastered version of its special teaser video has been unveiled, offering a tantalizing glimpse at the updated appearances and voices of the new Samurai Troopers. Adding to the excitement, following Ishibashi Hiroaki in the lead role of Gai, the initials of the remaining Samurai Trooper cast members, along with mysterious character silhouette images, have also been revealed ahead of time.

The Legacy of Yoroiden Samurai Troopers
For those unfamiliar, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers is an iconic TV anime produced by Sunrise, which originally aired from April 1988 to March 1989. The story follows five courageous boys who are drawn together by destiny, each possessing formidable “Yoroi Gear” (armor gear). They must unite their strength to battle against the malevolent “Youja” (evil spirits) army, led by the formidable Youja Emperor Arago. This series captivated audiences with its blend of action, friendship, and samurai-inspired armored combat.
The franchise expanded beyond the original TV series with three compelling OVA works: Yoroiden Samurai Troopers Gaiden (1989), Yoroiden Samurai Troopers Kikou Tei Densetsu (1989-1990), and Yoroiden Samurai Troopers MESSAGE (1991). Furthermore, the series also saw a manga adaptation by Hoshino Ryuichi, which was serialized in Comic BomBom, further cementing its place in pop culture history.

A New Era: Setting and Staff
Gaishin-den Samurai Troopers promises a fresh and entirely original story, set against the backdrop of present-day Shinjuku. This direct sequel is being brought to life by an impressive roster of creative talent. Directing the series is Fujita Youichi, renowned for his work on popular titles such as Gintama and Osomatsu-san, ensuring a dynamic and engaging narrative. The crucial roles of series composition and script are handled by Mutou Shougo, a versatile writer with a strong background in tokusatsu (special effects) and live-action projects, including Kamen Rider Build, the movie Crows ZERO, and even Thermae Romae. Furthermore, the main character designs are entrusted to Murota Yuuhei, celebrated for his distinctive work on Love Live!, Love Live! Sunshine!!, and the recent hit Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Aarya-san.

The assembly of this stellar team continues with Okamoto Hideo, who not only contributed to the original armor designs for Yoroiden Samurai Troopers but more recently lent his talents to monster designs for SSSS.DYNAZENON. He is responsible for the original Yoroi Gear designs for the new series, ensuring a consistent yet fresh take on the iconic armors. Cast in the pivotal role of the protagonist Gai is Ishibashi Hiroaki, an actor who garnered significant attention for his captivating performance as the protagonist Miguel in Disney/Pixar’s animated film Remember Me.
In the recently unveiled remastered special teaser video, Samurai Troopers other than the protagonist Gai appear with their faces intentionally obscured, adding to the intrigue. Following Gai’s fiery “Shakunetsu” (Blazing Heat) in the intense arming sequence, scenes featuring four additional Samurai Troopers have been added: Suiren (Water Curtain), Kouya (Wilderness), Soukyuu (Blue Sky), and Senkou (Flash). As viewers get a glimpse of each character in their formidable armored battle forms, anticipation for the character voices from the still-unrevealed voice cast is soaring, promising an exciting auditory experience alongside the stunning visuals.

Further adding to the mystique, concurrently unveiled character silhouette images display both the pre-armored character silhouettes and their post-armored Samurai Trooper forms. The initials of the voice actors who will be lending their talents to these new heroes have also been revealed: Suiren will be voiced by ‘A.M.’, Kouya by ‘S.T.’, Soukyuu by ‘J.E.’, and Senkou by ‘K.K.’. Following Ishibashi Hiroaki’s casting as the protagonist Gai, the anime community eagerly awaits further updates on who will portray these new samurai heroes, hinting at an exciting lineup to be announced soon.

The TV anime Gaishin-den Samurai Troopers, poised as the direct sequel to the beloved Yoroiden Samurai Troopers series, is slated to begin broadcasting in January 2026. Be sure to stay tuned and eagerly await all future announcements!
