September 12th is celebrated as “Space Day” in Japan. This special day commemorates the historic occasion in 1992 when astronaut Mouri Mamoru embarked on his first journey into space aboard a Space Shuttle.

For many anime fans, the mention of “space” instantly conjures images of Science Fiction (SF). Since the pioneering TV anime Tetsuwan Atom first aired in 1963, a multitude of captivating SF anime have graced our screens, both on television and in theaters. The themes explored within these works are incredibly diverse and boundless! From thrilling explorations of unknown planets and intense, gravity-defying battles fought in spaceships, to heartwarming or dramatic interactions with aliens, and the exciting exploits of advanced robots and intelligent AI—SF anime offers something for everyone. With such a rich galaxy of choices, which SF titles truly hold a special place in the hearts of Anime!Anime! readers?
