The Cutest Ever! Kisekoi Kitagawa-san’s Misunderstanding & Otome Mode Are Too Cute! ‘Makes My Heart Throb’, ‘Comical and Cute’ & Game Hitsugi ‘Was Really Scary’ [Episode 22 Spoilers Reaction Summary]

The highly anticipated Season 2 of the summer anime, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, aired its 22nd episode, titled “Are We Doing Everything Now!?”, on September 6, 2025, at midnight. This episode saw Gojou-kun staying at Kitagawa-san’s house due to train service suspensions, sparking immense excitement online with comments like “…What exactly are they going to do?” and “What did you say?!”

Based on the manga by Fukuda Shinichi, serialized in “Young Gangan,” Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, affectionately known as `Kisekoi`, captivated readers before its conclusion in March 2025, just before Season 2 aired. However, the anime returns more powerful than ever, bringing the beloved story to life with renewed energy.

The series beautifully illustrates the deepening connection between Gojou Wakana, a high school boy aspiring to become a Hina doll head artisan, and Kitagawa Marin, a popular girl who is always the center of attention in class. Their chance encounter leads them to bond over their shared passion for cosplay, exploring new facets of their lives and feelings.

※Please be aware that the following text contains spoilers for those who have not yet watched the series, due to the nature of the topic. Proceed with caution.

TV Anime Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Episode 22 Scene

Don Quijote’s Hyper-Realistic Portrayal and Marin’s Misunderstanding

The previous episode’s depiction of “Don Quijote,” where Kitagawa-san and Gojou-kun went shopping, became a major talking point. The hyper-realistic interior, achieved with the cooperation of the Don Quijote Oomiya Higashiguchi store, and the exact same in-store background music, generated a huge buzz online. Fans exclaimed, “The Don Quijote recreation is insane!” and “They actually used the Don Quijote song as is, LOL!”

To celebrate this collaboration, the Oomiya Higashiguchi store is currently exhibiting life-size panels (three types in total) featuring new “Fairytale ver.” illustrations of Kitagawa-san until October 12th, 26:00.

At that same Don Quijote, Gojou-kun bought an energy drink. With the trains stopped, he ended up having to stay at Kitagawa-san’s house. While Gojou-kun initially hesitated, he quickly realized, “That’s right! I just shouldn’t sleep. If I don’t sleep, it won’t be ‘staying over,’ it’ll be ‘just letting me stay until the trains move again’.” So, the energy drink was his item to stay awake.

Meanwhile, Kitagawa-san mistakenly thought Gojou-kun bought “some kind of amazing nutritional drink that means something big is about to happen.” Her heart pounded as she wondered if he was going to do “something naughty” tonight.

Marin’s Adorable Misconceptions and Panic

Episode 22 opens with Kitagawa-san and Gojou-kun returning to her house after their shopping trip at Don Quijote. Having come in from the cold, when Gojou-kun simply asks, “Kitagawa-san, would you like to take a bath?”, Kitagawa-san responds with a comical “Heh!”

While showering, Gojou-kun’s words from Don Quijote, “I don’t plan on sleeping tonight,” echo in her mind. As a countermeasure, she meticulously brushes her teeth and carefully selects her best lingerie, fully preparing for what she imagines might happen.

Fans online couldn’t get enough of Kitagawa-san’s reactions, commenting, “Kitagawa-san is so pure and cute,” “Kitagawa-san’s naughty delusions are unstoppable, LOL,” “Kitagawa-san’s voice volume is so tense,” and “Kitagawa-san is absolutely adorable, being so nervous throughout the sleepover scene.” Spira-Spica’s vocalist, Mikihana-san, who sings the opening theme “Ao to Kirameki,” aptly described the situation as “It’s like a misunderstanding comedy… so incredibly amusing!”

The Phenomenon of “Hitsugi” and Marin’s Innocent Heart

After taking a bath, Gojou-kun returns to playing the game “Hitsugi” (Coffin). In the previous episode, “Hitsugi” sent shivers down viewers’ spines, with comments like, “The game quality of Hitsugi is insane,” “Hitsugi is pixel art?! It really looked like a game that could be finished in 7 hours, that’s amazing!” and “Kisekoi’s passion for in-work creations is truly something. The game-like feel of Hitsugi is irresistible.”

Illustrator Narume-san is responsible for the pixel art of “Hitsugi,” adding to its impressive realism.

While Gojou-kun plays “Hitsugi,” he notices Kitagawa-san sitting hesitantly at the edge of the sofa and asks, “Why are you sitting so far in the corner?”

Kitagawa-san feels an unusually strong pressure from Gojou-kun. She overthinks everything, her mind racing: “Is it starting already? Isn’t this skipping too many steps? We haven’t even gone out, held hands, or kissed… We haven’t done *any* of that. Ah… does he mean we’re doing *everything* right now!?” Her thoughts spiral, leading to complete panic.

The internet exploded with reactions to Kitagawa-san’s adorable state: “Kitagawa-san is so cute being nervous throughout the sleepover scene,” “Barefaced Kitagawa-san is cute,” “Kitagawa-san without her colored contacts is something else,” and “Kitagawa Marin-san is excessively cute.” Her natural, youthful look without colored contacts garnered many “cute” comments.

Overwhelmed by her misunderstanding and nervousness, Kitagawa-san tumbles off the sofa. To calm herself down, despite it being late at night, she decides to eat. Her choice is cup ramen, a dish filled with memories of her father. This scene was even released as a “Fast Noodle Big New Commercial”!

Slurping calorie-off cup ramen, Kitagawa-san laments, “I’ve been eating only diet food, I really want something fried.” Once her stomach is full, she finally goes to sleep.

Left alone in the living room, Gojou-kun resumes playing “Hitsugi.” The intricately designed game screen garnered immense praise online: “Hitsugi is amazing…”, “The game scenes in Hitsugi are incredible…”, “I want to play Hitsugi, please make it a game,” and “Even though I’d already seen this content in the original manga, seeing it animated as a real game screen with such amazing direction truly moved me!”

The horror elements also drew strong reactions: “Hitsugi is scary,” “The Hitsugi scene in Kisekoi is too scary to rewatch,” “Seeing it animated makes it even more intense than the manga,” and “The manga was scary, but the anime’s direction made it truly terrifying.”

This episode, the official website also unveiled the introduction and six characters for “Hitsugi.” Itou Suzuka’s voice actress, Miyake Marie, even commented, “When I saw the game’s depiction of Hitsugi during recording, I was blown away! Please let me play it!”

Marin’s Blossoming Feelings and a Heartfelt Decision

The next day, Kitagawa-san wakes up in bed, springing up with a shout of, “Wait! Nothing happened!” In the living room, Gojou-kun is engrossed in “Hitsugi,” having consumed energy drinks, becoming completely emotionally drained from the game.

That night, Kitagawa-san holds a self-reflection session, admitting, “I totally misunderstood and got my hopes up ridiculously.” She then reveals her true feelings: “Because I thought… we could start dating just like that… I thought I’d properly tell Gojou-kun I like him… and then… ask him out.”

However, recalling his past reactions, she falls into despair, thinking, “Worst case scenario, he might genuinely only see me as a friend.”

Scene from Episode 22

She even consults her classmate, Sugaya Nowa, asking, “What would you do if a friend confessed to you?” Her heart is now fully in “maiden in love” mode.

Online, Kitagawa-san’s blossoming feelings garnered significant attention: “Kitagawa-san’s girlish heart is completely out, and it’s wonderful,” “Worried Kitagawa-san is too cute,” “Kitagawa-san’s feelings of love just make my heart flutter just by watching,” “Kitagawa-san is so incredibly feminine now,” “Kitagawa-san, a maiden in love next to Gojou-kun, is both poignant and sometimes comical, so cute,” and “It’s hard to believe this is the same Kitagawa-san who once playfully asked Gojou-kun ‘Where’s your nipple?’, her girlish heart exploding like this is just lovely.”

When Kitagawa-san, the object of so much online attention for her maidenly heart, dropped by Gojou-kun’s house for dinner as usual, she found him preparing fried horse mackerel, just as she had mentioned wanting fried food. She was deeply moved by the fried horse mackerel, which was made with plum and shiso so it could be eaten without any sauce.

Kitagawa-san exclaimed, “Yummy!”, eating with obvious relish, and her eating scenes are always popular online, with comments like “Munching Kitagawa-san is too cute~~” and “Kitagawa-san eating a lot is cute.”

Mikihana-san also clearly understood, commenting, “It’s that scene again tonight! The one that makes you hungry!!! Plum and shiso fried horse mackerel!!! Munching Marin-chan is so, so, so cute, eat lots and lots!”

After eating the handmade fried horse mackerel, Kitagawa-san was walked to the station by Gojou-kun. When she was alone, her thoughts of Gojou-kun overwhelmed her, making her feel mentally down. “I’ve decided! I’m tired of feeling down!” she declared, vowing something in her heart. The internet was abuzz with excitement!

“Kitagawa-san, so conscious of him that she couldn’t even properly look at his face, what a maiden,” “It’s so good that Kitagawa-san, who is usually an action-oriented demon, is scared to confess only to Gojou-kun,” “Confession flag is here! Kitagawa-san, show him you’re a woman!!!!”, and “Kitagawa-san was so utterly girlish, so pure, and so precious that I almost cried. She was the cutest she’s ever been.”

Suguta Hina, the voice actress for Kitagawa-san, also commented, “Pure,ドキドキ(heart-pounding) moments and chillingドキドキ moments… all sorts ofドキドキ rushed through me! Marin-chan is too cute right to the very end…”

Staff and Cast Reactions

Miyake Marie-san posted after the broadcast, “Marin-chan was super cute, wasn’t she? Personally, I loved the scene from the manga where Marin-chan was splayed out in her underwear, so I was happy to see it in the anime! How was it for everyone? Share your thoughts with #kisekoianime, even if it’s just a word or two.” The last sentence sounds just like Suzuka, doesn’t it?

Ono Atsushi-san, who plays Gojou Kaoru, Gojou-kun’s grandfather, posted, “Even a grandpa like me wants to eat a whole fried horse mackerel! And it made me so happy that they matched the animation perfectly to my ad-libbed lines.” Seeing Kitagawa-san, the grandpa got a craving for fried horse mackerel. He had a funny exchange with Gojou-kun: “Then I’ll give you half a piece,” “Half a piece, huh?”

Amemiya Yuuka-san, the voice actress for Yahiro Dia, Kitagawa-san and Gojou-kun’s classmate, mentioned she felt hungry after the episode. “Dazed Marin-chan and young Marin-chan were both so cute! The cup noodles and fried horse mackerel also looked delicious… I got so hungry…”

There were many posts from the production staff after the broadcast once again! (A selection below)

CloverWorks, the animation studio, also showcased job opportunities for animators. The studio is actively involved in training new animators, and it seems everyone is steadily growing!

What’s Next for Marin and Gojou-kun?

The next episode, Episode 23, is titled “I Thought Nothing Good Would Ever Happen in My Life.” Fans are already speculating with comments like “It’s going to cover the scenes I particularly wanted to see animated!”, “Is the next Kisekoi episode definitely divine????”, and “Ah, I’m sure I’m going to cry (certainty).” Who could be thinking that nothing good would ever happen in their life? Gojou-kun? Kitagawa-san? Or someone else entirely?

Finally, let’s take a closer look at Kitagawa-san’s scene where she eats the fried horse mackerel! There are meticulous instructions for the batter (thin), batter (crispy), and shiso (Japanese basil). This level of detail is what leads to such a delicious-looking scene.
