Celebrate Dog Day: Who is Your Favorite Anime Dog Character?

November 1st is designated as “Dog Day” in Japan! This special day, established by the Japan Pet Food Association, is a delightful play on words: “wan-wan (11) wan (1)” which mimics the sound of a dog’s bark.

Dogs are truly humanity’s closest companions, and it’s no surprise they hold an indispensable place in the world of anime and manga. Whether they’re depicted as steadfast, loyal companions supporting their protagonists, understanding human words and forming deep bonds, or even possessing the fantastical ability to transform into human forms, each dog character is uniquely brought to life with a rich personality that captivates our hearts.

Announcing Our Annual Survey: What’s Your Favorite Dog Character?

That’s why Anime!Anime! is excited to announce our much-loved annual reader survey: “Who is your favorite dog character?” We invite you to cast your vote in a free-form answer format, telling us which character immediately comes to mind!

Please note that eligible characters must originate from 2D content, including anime (TV series, movies, streaming, OVAs), games, CD series, manga, and more. Each person is kindly requested to submit only one response. Basic information such as gender and age are optional fields, and you are welcome to participate without providing them. Everyone is encouraged to join in the fun!

The deadline for submissions is October 23rd. We will publish the survey results as soon as they are compiled, so please look forward to it!
