About Mutsumi Inomata-sensei
Mutsumi Inomata, born on December 23, 1960, in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was a highly acclaimed character designer and illustrator. Her influential career began with her anime debut in `Plares San-Shiro`. Her extensive list of iconic works includes beloved anime titles such as `Genmu Senki Leda`, `Windaria`, and `Shin Seiki GPX Cyber Formula`. She also lent her distinctive style to novel illustrations and films like `Uchuu Ouji` and `Kaze no Tairiku`, alongside a significant body of work in games, most notably `Tales of Destiny` and many other entries in the `Tales of` series. Mutsumi Inomata-sensei left behind a legacy of countless beautiful illustrations before her sudden passing on March 10, 2024. She was also widely known for her profound affection for cats, often incorporating them as a recurring motif in her magnificent artwork.
A Glimpse into the Exhibition: Over 120 Analog Artworks
The “Mutsumi Inomata Retrospective Exhibition” is a grand celebration of Inomata-sensei’s artistic journey, featuring an impressive collection of over 120 vibrantly colored analog original artworks. These pieces span her contributions to anime, novels, games, and her captivating original creations, all brought together for a comprehensive display.

This unique exhibition focuses exclusively on analog masterpieces, foregoing any digital works. Instead, visitors will be treated to a carefully curated selection of color illustrations meticulously crafted with paint on Arches paper. This offers a rare chance to experience firsthand the exquisite, true-to-life colors, the intricate textures (or `matière`), and the vibrant spirit of her brushstrokes – details that were often impossible to fully replicate in printed media of the past.

Adding to the excitement, a complete chapter of precious manga manuscripts drawn in the 1980s will be making its public debut. The exhibition will also proudly display numerous unreleased works and a treasure trove of materials that have never before seen the light of day. Fans will surely mark their calendars for the premiere of unpublished color illustrations and manga manuscripts that were discovered only after her passing.
