About SAKAMOTO DAYS: From Manga to Global Sensation
SAKAMOTO DAYS is an action-packed battle manga by Suzuki Yuuto, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump in November 2020. The story kicks off with Sakamoto Tarou, once the most feared hitman by all villains, falling head-over-heels for a convenience store clerk named Aoi and promptly retiring from his deadly profession. After marriage and the birth of their daughter, Sakamoto, now sporting a more robust physique, runs the “Sakamoto Shoutengai” (Sakamoto Store). However, villains continuously close in on his peaceful new life. The series brilliantly depicts Sakamoto’s “daily life meets non-daily life” solid action as he battles relentless assailants to protect his beloved family and their tranquility.
The manga has enjoyed immense popularity, with 24 volumes published to date. As of August 2025, its worldwide cumulative circulation, including digital editions, has surpassed 15 million copies. The anime adaptation, which began airing in January 2025, quickly took the world by storm. It recorded a massive hit with 8.6 million views globally in its first week on Netflix, and over 10.6 million views in Japan alone. The anime also ranked 2nd globally, achieving the top spot in 5 countries and making it into the top 10 in 67 countries, showcasing its explosive international appeal.
Star-Studded Cast and Crew Bring Action to Life
For this live-action film, the role of the strongest hitman, Sakamoto Tarou, is taken on by Meguro Ren. Directing the film is Fukuda Yuuichi, a master of comedy known for works like the Gintama series and Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! Gekijouban. Produced by CREDEUS, the studio behind acclaimed films such as the Kingdom series and Golden Kamuy, this promises to be a full-fledged action entertainment blockbuster.
Such a production was announced recently, where Takahashi Fumiya will portray Sakamoto Tarou’s trusted companion, Asakura Shin. This news sent waves across social media, with fans expressing their excitement through comments like “He suits Shin perfectly! So happy!”, “This is so hype!”, and “Can’t wait to see it!”, further amplifying the anticipation for the film.

Meet the Sakamoto Family: Ueto Aya as Aoi, Yoshimoto Miyu as Hana
Now, adding to the excitement, Ueto Aya has been cast as Sakamoto Aoi, the wife Sakamoto Tarou (Meguro Ren) fell in love with at first sight. Ueto Aya, who has starred in numerous popular dramas and films such as the Hanzawa Naoki series, Hirugao ~Heijitsu Gogo 3-ji no Koibitotachi~, Shylock no Kodomotachi, and the Chinmoku no Kantai series, is also a mother of three in her personal life. She is perfectly suited to play Aoi, who is bright, unafraid, cherishes her family above all else, and is the mother to their only daughter, Hana.
Regarding her first co-starring experience with Meguro Ren, Ueto Aya commented, “While this is my first time working with Meguro Ren-san, I’ve always admired his delicate and sincere acting. On set, his earnest approach to the project was very impressive, and I feel incredibly honored to have worked alongside him.” Speaking about the Sakamoto family scenes, she added, “Amidst the many powerful scenes filmed with various techniques, I believe Sakamoto Aoi’s appearance is filled with moments that convey ‘the warmth of home’ within the comedic elements.” Aoi is the central figure of the family, responsible for Sakamoto’s retirement as a hitman and establishing the family rule of “no killing.” Her role as Sakamoto’s strongest wife, the one person he truly defers to, will certainly be a highlight to watch.

Furthermore, it has also been revealed that Yoshimoto Miyu will portray Sakamoto Hana, the cherished only daughter of Sakamoto and Aoi. Yoshimoto Miyu, who has balanced her modeling career with acting, made her debut as the young protagonist in 18/40 ~Futari Nara Koi mo Yume mo~, where she played the childhood role of Fukada Kyouko’s character. This year, she also appeared as the young Ayase Haruka in the NHK Saturday drama Hitori de Shinitai and made her film debut in Detchiage ~Satsujin Kyoushi to Yobareta Otoko, steadily expanding her acting horizons. With her pure aura and immense potential for growth, Yoshimoto Miyu is set to embody Hana, a bright and kind girl just like her mother Aoi.
Along with these casting announcements, character visuals for Ueto Aya as Aoi and Yoshimoto Miyu as Hana have also arrived. The visuals, which seem to capture a snapshot of the Sakamoto family’s daily life, are striking with the smiling faces of Hana and Aoi. They beautifully depict the loving family that Sakamoto Tarou cherishes above all else and protects from incoming assassins. The innocent, radiant smiles of Aoi and Hana clearly convey the Sakamoto family’s harmonious and peaceful life.
The live-action film SAKAMOTO DAYS is scheduled for release during Golden Week 2026. We eagerly await further updates!

Ueto Aya (First participation in a Fukuda Yuuichi-directed work)
Upon reading the original manga, I was instantly drawn into the world of SAKAMOTO DAYS and really wanted to be a part of it. This is my first time co-starring with Meguro Ren-san, but I’ve always admired his delicate and sincere acting. On set, his earnest approach to the project was very impressive, and I feel incredibly honored to have worked alongside him.
Amidst the many powerful scenes filmed with various techniques, I believe Sakamoto Aoi’s scenes are filled with moments that convey “the warmth of a family” within the comedic elements. I hope that it serves as a small accent within the overall work.
