In the vibrant worlds of anime and games, we frequently encounter characters who adore wearing tights. Their reasons for embracing this fashion staple are as diverse as the characters themselves: some wear them as a stylish accessory, others to brave the winter chill, or simply as a part of their school uniform.
To celebrate this unique item, Anime! Anime! decided to conduct a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite ‘Tights’ character?”—the first in four years! The survey ran from October 18th to October 25th, gathering 87 responses. The gender ratio was almost even, and the age demographics showed approximately 40% were under 19, with 20s and 30s each accounting for about 15% of respondents.

■ Tights as a Mark of Individuality: Heroines Who Rock Black!
First Place
Claiming the top spot once again is Shimizu Kiyoko from Haikyuu!!, with an impressive support rate of approximately 20%.
Shimizu Kiyoko, the manager of Karasuno High School’s boys’ volleyball club, is always seen wearing black tights. Many readers shared their heartwarming memories related to her tights, with one commenter saying, “She used to wear tights habitually to cover a leg injury she got from track and field. I just love her smile in Haikyuu!! To The Top episode 9 when her junior manager, Yachi Hitoka, called them ‘scars of honor’.” This sentiment truly highlights how her tights are more than just an accessory—they’re a part of her story.
Haikyuu!! continues to soar in popularity, especially with the upcoming release of the new movie, Gekijouban Haikyuu!! VS Chiisana Kyojin, and the special anime, Haikyuu!! Bakemono-tachi no Yukutokoro. The massive success of the movie has further amplified the excitement surrounding the series!
Second Place
In second place, maintaining her position from the previous survey, is Nakano Miku from Gotoubun no Hanayome (also known as The Quintessential Quintuplets), garnering about 8% of the votes.
Nakano Miku is the third sister among the Nakano quintuplets, known for her calm demeanor and her passion for Sengoku period warlords. A reader pointed out a particularly memorable scene: “She consistently favors black tights, rarely showing her bare legs throughout the series. However, in episode 2 of the first season, after an exhausting chase while playing a warlord shiritori game with Fuutarou, there’s a precious scene where she takes off her tights.” Her tights also serve as a distinctive element, helping fans differentiate her from her identical sisters.
Third Place
Taking the third spot, with a minuscule difference from second place, is Yosano Akiko from Bungou Stray Dogs. She made a remarkable leap into the top ranks, having been outside the previous survey’s ranking.
Yosano Akiko is a formidable member of the Armed Detective Agency, an organization of individuals with supernatural abilities. Readers praised her distinctive style, commenting, “Her outfit—a white shirt with a black tie, skirt, and tights—is so striking. The tights have a high denier count, making the black stand out beautifully.” Another fan added, “Although she’s the Armed Detective Agency’s exclusive doctor, her extreme healing methods, which require her patients to be on the brink of death before she can cure them, are truly unforgettable.” This character from a series that recently announced a second season for its spin-off, Bungou Stray Dogs Wan!, clearly left a strong impression with her unique look.

For Kugisaki Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen, a reader shared: “The combination of her long school skirt and black tights suits her so well. Nobara-chan inspired me to start wearing them too!”
Regarding Kitagawa Marin from Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (also known as My Dress-Up Darling), one fan enthusiastically wrote: “In episodes 13 and 14, during the Halloween party arc, she showcased her stunning bunny girl cosplay as Isayoi Arisa from ‘Kochira Tsukiyono Company.’ Her look, featuring fishnet tights as an alteration, makes her my number one tights character!”

And for Kanzaki Yukiko from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), a reader noted: “As the Madonna of Class 3-E, she has a pure, modest, and kind personality. Her black tights perfectly match this image, and she never goes without them, even in her casual clothes.” This character, from a title with an upcoming movie release, also received significant votes.
The 2025 edition of the survey saw a diverse assembly of characters from various genres, including sports, romantic comedy, and action. It was clear that readers loved connecting the charm of tights to the characters’ unique personalities and fashion choices.
