A Journey Through the Stars: Kiki & Lala’s 50-Year History
Little Twin Stars, known affectionately as Kiki and Lala, made their charming debut back in 1975 on the cover of the December issue of Sanrio’s official magazine, “Gekkan Ichigo Shinbun” (Monthly Strawberry News). Interestingly, when they first appeared, Kiki had brown hair and Lala had yellow hair, and they hadn’t even been given their names yet! It was thanks to the wonderful readers of “Ichigo Shinbun” that they were lovingly named Kiki and Lala.
Over the decades, their style has evolved beautifully. The 80s saw them in soft, gentle hues, while the 90s brought vibrant and colorful designs. As the 2000s dawned, their original designs were reimagined, infused with a touch of sweetness and lovely pastel colors, giving birth to the iconic “yume-kawaii” (dreamy cute) aesthetic we adore today.
