About Kinnikuman: A Legend of Muscle and Might
For the uninitiated, Kinnikuman is the legendary wrestling manga created by the duo Yudetamago (scenario by Shimada Takashi and art by Nakai Yoshinori). It first launched in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1979 and is still going strong today, now serialized in Weekly Playboy and Web Playboy News, with over 77 million copies of the series in circulation. The anime started airing in 1983, and who could forget the massive “Kinkeshi” (Muscle Rubber) boom that saw more than 180 million of those little figures sold? It’s a true pillar of Japanese pop culture.
