Adventurer’s License Revoked? No Problem! “Boukensha License” Light Novel Gets TV Anime
Great news for fantasy fans! An upcoming anime is set to warm hearts with a story about second chances and unexpected family. The announcement came straight from the GA Fes 2026 event, celebrating GA Bunko’s 20th anniversary.
What’s the Story About?
The series, originally titled Boukensha License wo Hakudatsu sareta Ossan dakedo, Manamusume ga Dekita node Nonbiri Jinsei wo Ouka suru, follows a rather unique premise. You might also see it translated as I Lost My Adventurer’s License, but It’s Fine Because I Have an Adorable Daughter Now.
It centers on Dagurasu (Douglas), a man who was once hailed as a legendary enhancement spellcaster. Time, however, hasn’t been kind. Now seen as just a weak old man, he gets booted from his hero party and hits rock bottom when his official adventurer’s license is revoked. Just as he’s resigned to a life of wandering, his path crosses with Rabi, a little girl burdened by a curse. This encounter sparks the beginning of a completely new and heartwarming adventure for the former legend.
From Web Novel to Bookshelves
The journey to this anime adaptation started online. The author, Manimani Ononata, first began publishing the story on the Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel platform back in December 2017. Its popularity led to a print publication under SB Creative’s GA Bunko label starting in August 2018, featuring charming illustrations by artist Choko Fuji (known for Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou!). The light novel series is currently up to four volumes, with the latest released in October 2022.
The Manga Adaptation
For those who prefer comics, the story also has a successful manga version. Drawn by Fumi Tadaura (artist for the Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut manga), the adaptation began serialization on the Manga UP! platform in November 2018. It’s even further along, with its 13th volume published in June 2025. International readers can enjoy the English version digitally through Square Enix on platforms like the global Manga UP! site, Comikey, and Bookwalker.
