Exciting News for Revue Starlight Fans!
Great news just dropped from the Bushiroad New Year Grand Presentation 2026 event! A brand-new sequel anime for the beloved Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight series is officially in the works. The announcement came with a fresh promotional video, signaling a whole new chapter for the franchise.
What We Know About the New Project
This isn’t just a rehash—it’s a completely original story that will continue the saga. The best part? The fantastic team at Kinema Citrus is returning to handle the animation production, ensuring that the magical stage battles and emotional drama will look as stunning as ever.
For those catching up, the original TV anime aired in the summer of 2018 and ran for 12 episodes. It was followed by two films: the compilation movie Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight: Rondo Rondo Rondo in 2020, and the sequel film Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Movie (often called Revue Starlight: The Movie) in 2021, which took the story beyond the TV series finale.
A Bit About the Revue Starlight Universe
Beyond the anime, the series has a rich multimedia footprint. It spawned three manga adaptations that all started serialization back in January 2018, appearing in magazines like Monthly Bushiroad and Dengeki G’s Comic. It’s a franchise built on performance, passion, and those unforgettable musical duels.
Welcome to the Stage: The Story So Far
At the prestigious Seishou Music Academy, the annual Seishou Festival is the biggest event of the year. The 99th class is deep in rehearsals for their performance of “Starlight,” a tragic tale of two goddesses forever chasing each other across the heavens but never able to meet. This academy molds the next generation of stage talent, honing every student’s acting, singing, and dancing skills.
Our window into this world is through the energetic 16-year-old Aijou Karen, who has lived and breathed theater since she was a kid. Her passion is reignited when her childhood friend, Kagura Hikari, transfers into the school. Through Hikari, Karen discovers a hidden elevator that leads to a massive, secret theater beneath the campus. Run by a mysterious talking giraffe, this arena hosts intense duels where students battle for the coveted “Top Star” title—and the right to play a lead role in “Starlight.” Driven by a promise they made long ago to become stars together, Karen jumps into these surreal battles, determined to turn that dream into reality.
