The story synopsis and preview images for Episode 2 of the winter anime Mayonaka Heart Tune (which can be translated as *Midnight Heart Tune*), set to air starting Tuesday, January 13, 2026, have been released.
Mayonaka Heart Tune is a “voice youth” (seishun) romantic comedy based on the manga by Igarashi Masakuni, currently serialized in Kodansha’s *Weekly Shounen Magazine*. It follows the heroines of the broadcasting club, who are striving towards their “dreams” related to “voice” work—becoming singers, voice actors, VTubers, or announcers—and the protagonist who fights to make those dreams come true.
The anime is directed by Takahashi Masayuki, with animation production handled by Gekkou. The cast features Yamada Rikuya as Yamabuki Arisu, alongside Seto Momoko as Inohana Rikka, Okubo Rumi as Himegawa Nene, Suzushiro Sayumi as Kirino Iko, Itou Miku as Amatsuki Shinobu, and Hanazawa Kana as Andou Remon.
The Search for a Lost Voice
Yamabuki Arisu, the heir to a corporate conglomerate who aims for perfection in everything, is searching for the “final 1%” he needs to become 100% perfect. That missing piece is “Apollo,” the host of the radio show *Mayonaka Heart Tune* he used to listen to every night. However, at the end of his first year of middle school, Apollo suddenly stopped broadcasting without telling Arisu anything.
Now, in the spring of his second year of high school, Arisu has schemed his way into becoming a student at Kaede Bayashi High School, which has recently become co-ed. Guided by the one clue he has for Apollo—whose face and real name are unknown—a familiar “voice,” Arisu one day rushes into the broadcasting club. There, he finds four girls, each with a trace of Apollo about them, all dreaming of careers involving their voices. And so, Arisu declares he will make all four of their vocal dreams come true, in order to fulfill a promise he once made with Apollo.
Episode 2 Synopsis: The First Hurdle
Having vowed to guide all the broadcasting club members to become professionals, Arisu creates tailored goals and practice programs for each of their dreams.
The goal he gives to Inohana Rikka, who aims to be a singer, is to sell 50 CDs at a street live performance. However, Arisu, who has never known nervousness in his life, can’t understand Rikka’s anxiety about singing in front of people. As a result, she throws the assigned goal right back at him.
Stumped, Arisu decides to go watch the weekly school live event another day to properly gauge her skills. On the stage, gathered with many fans, Rikka begins to sing, filled with tension.
Her singing voice overlaps with the voice of Apollo he heard long ago on the radio…
