The Phenomenon of Kimetsu no Yaiba
For those who’ve been living under a rock, Kimetsu no Yaiba is a cultural titan. Based on the manga by Gotouge Koyoharu, published by Shueisha’s Jump Comics, the series has sold over 220 million copies worldwide. The story follows Kamado Tanjirou, a kind-hearted boy whose family is slaughtered by demons. His sole surviving sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon herself. Driven by a desperate hope to turn her back into a human, Tanjirou joins the Demon Slayer Corps and plunges into a brutal war against the forces of evil.
What makes it so special? It masterfully blends heartbreaking tales of humans and demons, breathtaking sword-fighting animation, an incredibly charismatic cast of characters, and perfectly timed comedic relief. The anime adaptation by studio ufotable, which began with the Kimetsu no Yaiba: Tanjirou Risshi Hen TV series in 2019, has been a visual spectacle from the start.
The current Mugenjou-hen (Infinity Castle Chapter) film trilogy represents the final, epic showdown between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons within their fortress. Part 1: Akaza Sairai hit theaters on July 18th, 2025, and as of January 18th, 2026, it has raked in an astonishing 39.08 billion yen at the Japanese box office, making it the second highest-grossing film in the series, just behind Mugen Ressha-hen (Infinity Train). Its prestige was further highlighted by a nomination for the Best Animated Film award at the 83rd Golden Globes, where it was the sole Japanese nominee.
