One of Japan’s Longest-Running Anime Sets Sail for Taiwan!
The iconic and beloved anime Sazae-san is officially going international! It has been announced that the series will begin broadcasting in Taiwan starting Monday, January 26, 2026.
The anime Sazae-san is based on the manga by Machiko Hasegawa. The comic was serialized from 1946 in newspapers like the Yukan Fukunichi and later enjoyed a long run in the morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun from 1951 to 1974.
The TV anime adaptation began in 1969. It became a Sunday evening staple on Fuji TV at 6:30 PM, cherished across the Showa, Heisei, and now Reiwa eras. In October 2024, it celebrated its 55th anniversary and even renewed its Guinness World Record as the “longest-running television animated series.”
Now, this legendary anime is making its way to Taiwan. The premiere is scheduled for January 26, 2026, on the cable channel MOMOTV.

Why Taiwan? MUSE Communications Sees a Perfect Fit
The company bringing Sazae-san to Taiwan is MUSE Communication Co., Ltd., a major Taiwanese firm specializing in the distribution and licensing of Japanese anime.
The company commented: “In Taiwan, family-oriented works have always been hugely popular. Series like Crayon Shin-chan and Atashin’chi have been beloved by viewers for many years. There is also a high demand from television stations for content that families can watch together safely. Given that Sazae-san is a long-cherished staple in Japan, we believe it has high affinity for the Taiwanese market and expect a stable, successful rollout, which is why we acquired the rights.” They have high hopes for the series’ reception in Taiwan.
Sazae-san will grace Taiwanese living rooms every Monday through Friday at 7:00 PM. It will be fascinating to see how this quintessential Japanese family is welcomed by audiences abroad!
