Sanrio and DIANA Unveil Elegant “Nishijin-ori Series” Collaboration
Get ready for a stunning fusion of kawaii culture and traditional Japanese craftsmanship! A new collaborative series between Sanrio characters and the fashion brand DIANA, titled the “Nishijin-ori Series,” has been announced. The collection is set to launch on Monday, February 16, 2026, at select DIANA stores across Japan, select ARTEMIS by DIANA stores, and on the official DIANA WEB SHOP.
So, what’s “Nishijin-ori”? It refers to a luxurious, pre-dyed textile produced in the Nishijin district of Kyoto. This series makes exquisite use of this fabric, featuring a delicate cherry blossom pattern printed with none other than Hello Kitty. The lineup includes ballet flats, two types of sneakers, and a bag for a total of four stylish items.
The fabric used is a type called “donsu” (damask), which is designated as a traditional craft. It’s woven using a satin weave technique, giving it a characteristically beautiful sheen and luster.
A Modern Take on Tradition with Hello Kitty
The collaboration goes a step further by creating an original fabric blend. The delicate cherry blossom Nishijin-ori is printed with a uniquely charming Hello Kitty, who is dressed up as a “maneki-neko” (beckoning cat) and a “daruma” doll. This creates a wonderfully modern yet traditionally Japanese aesthetic.
