Mobile Police Patlabor EZY ‘File 2’ Full Trailer Reveals Chaotic Daily Life of Special Vehicles Section 2, New Characters and Movie Ticket Details

The new anime in the Mobile Police Patlabor series, Mobile Police Patlabor EZY, began its theatrical run on May 15, 2026, in a three-chapter format. Now, the key visual and full trailer for File 2, overflowing with buddy action and the chaotic daily life of Special Vehicles Section 2 (Tokusha Nika), have been released, along with details on five new characters surrounding Section 2 and movie ticket information for File 2.

The Mobile Police Patlabor series was born on April 25, 1988, as a six-episode OVA (original video animation). It is a media mix project created by the creative group HEADGEAR, consisting of manga artist Masami Yūki, mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi, scriptwriter Kazunori Itō, character designer Akemi Takada, and director Mamoru Oshii.

The story is set in Tokyo at the end of the 20th century, a world where police robots with cherry blossom emblems on their chests patrol the streets. It depicts the activities of the Special Vehicles Section 2 members who pilot robots called Ingram to fight criminals, sometimes with a comedic touch and sometimes seriously. The franchise has scored one hit after another with OVAs, theatrical films, comics, and a TV anime.
The new anime, Mobile Police Patlabor EZY, was announced for production in 2017. A pilot film was shown at an event in 2022, and in September 2024 it was announced that the project would launch in 2026.

And today, File 1 was finally released. The new story of Special Vehicles Section 2, which has attracted attention not only from long-time series fans but also from a new audience, has begun.

Along with the eagerly awaited release, the key visual for File 2, which opens on August 14 (Friday), has been unveiled. It features Towa and Kippei standing side by side with their respective “loved cars” in the background, creating a refreshingly exhilarating visual. With the ocean in the background and their slightly relaxed expressions and lighthearted atmosphere, one can glimpse the strong trust between the two, who have run through many scenes together.

The newly released full trailer depicts a series of troubles: a bullet disappearance case, the presence of a mysterious beautiful girl, a sudden landslide disaster, and more. The chaotic feel typical of Special Vehicles Section 2, the well-paced exchanges, and the dialogues that make you chuckle are full of the essence of “this is Patlabor.” Following File 1, File 2 accelerates the chaotic comedy of Special Vehicles Section 2 even further. Keep your eyes on the two buddies as they speed through a daily life full of unexpected events.

Furthermore, five new members surrounding Towa, Kippei, and Special Vehicles Section 2 have been added. In addition to Shibashigeo, whose appearance was announced at the completion premiere event, the new members include the maintenance team supporting the new Section 2, the First Platoon leader, and the Section 2 chief—a lineup of colorful characters whose roles are intriguing.

How will these new characters, voiced by talented cast members, interact with the members of Special Vehicles Section 2 and drive the story? File 2, where you can enjoy an unpredictable daily life, is not to be missed. Details on each character are introduced below.

Movie tickets for File 2 have also gone on sale. Following the regular File 1 tickets featuring Towa and Kippei, File 2 tickets feature the Unit 2 duo, Hazama and Hirata, with the Ingram Plus Unit 2 in the background. The specially designed tickets can be enjoyed singly or by placing File 1 and File 2 tickets side by side, and come with a clear file of the File 2 key visual as a bonus.
