‘Jackal Is a Total Scumbag But He Looks Cool!’ ‘Kenshiro’s Frustration is Palpable’ — Kindness Gets Exploited Again in ‘Fist of the North Star’ Episode 8 Spoiler Roundup

Kenshiro has been silencing scumbags like Shin and Golan who prey on the weak, but the chaos of the world gives him no rest. A boy seeking help brings him to a new crisis. A young messenger from the village where Bat once lived comes to Kenshiro for salvation.

The next opponent is the cunning leader of a bandit army, Jackal.

He is an enemy who considers retreat a strategy—a stark contrast to the martial artists Kenshiro has faced head-on. Can Kenshiro prevent another tragedy against such a foe?

In this article, we look back at Episode 8, “A Messenger from the Homeland,” a moving story about a well, and introduce viewer reactions from posts on X.

*The following contains spoilers for those who have not seen the episode. Proceed with caution.

Kenshiro’s Journey Now Includes Lin!

After rescuing Lin from her fight with Golan, Kenshiro sent her and Bat ahead to town to take care of “cleanup” alone. He finally returns to the bar, meaning this episode picks up right after Episode 7. Without a moment’s rest, he dives into the next battle.

Before Episode 8 aired, viewers were eagerly waiting on the timeline, and the reason was the next villain, Jackal. One particularly invested viewer wrote with passion: “Personally, since the new anime started, I’ve been most looking forward to the Jackal arc. I love Jackal’s villainy, but I’m also excited to see Toyo’s final scene (changed in the old anime) and the full cut of the former boxer (the ‘abeshi’ guy) that was completely removed. And I’m hoping for Nanto Bakuretsu Ken too (lol).”

Jackal makes his first appearance in a bathing scene, just like in the original manga. He calmly assesses Kenshiro’s strength and then “educates” his subordinates with his own body on why it’s foolish to fight someone stronger than you head-on.

Viewers reacted to this imposing villain with renewed anticipation: “An old man casually taking a bath. In a world where water is precious, you can tell he has the power to do that.” “Whoa, Jackal is such a scumbag, but he looks cool!” “First appearance in a bath scene—that’s avant-garde.”

Meanwhile, at the bar, a new weakling seeking salvation comes to Kenshiro. The boy, named Taki, is someone Kenshiro helped when he returned from God Land, and he is also from the village where Bat once lived. That village had a well, but it has now dried up, and the adults have left one by one. Only Toyo remains, trying desperately to dig a new well for the orphans, but alone she is limited. So she sent Taki to find help.

Bat initially does not recognize him, but still gruffly hands him a handkerchief to wipe his dirty face, showing he cannot help but care for others. Viewers commented, “I can see why Bat is liked.”

In response to this desperate plea, Kenshiro decides, “Bat, where is your village?” He takes Lin and heads to Bat’s village. But Jackal, hearing about water, naturally follows, lurking for an opportunity.

When they arrive at the village, they are greeted by “everyone’s grandmother,” Toyo. According to Toyo, a geologist who once lived there confirmed water underground, but it seems protected by a hard rock layer, making it no easy task. Still, leaving the village is not an option, especially with young children. All the orphans either had their parents killed or were abandoned as burdens; a long journey would be suicide.

Initially, viewers were amused: “Kenshiro can use polite language?” “Kenshiro using honorifics is rare.” But they soon turned sympathetic: “Lin also grew up alone…”

Despite the situation, Toyo gives precious water to Kenshiro and his companions, showing gratitude for them protecting Taki—even though that water was meant for her own consumption.

Because of Toyo’s kindness, young Taki wanted to help her, so he went alone to find a helper. That night, he even sneaks into the bandits’ territory to bring water from the well. Viewers who learned of this warm bond were moved: “Granny is too saintly.” “He tried to get water for the old lady.” “Raising orphans and giving away her own drinking water… what a woman.”

But this is the end of the century. Violence mercilessly awaits the weak. Taki is discovered by bandits, and an arrow pierces his small body.

“There are routes where you can’t save everyone in Fist of the North Star. This is the end of the century…”

Viewers watch as Kenshiro rushes in and defeats the bandits, but it is too late. With a weak voice, Taki entrusts the water he obtained for Toyo to Kenshiro, then breathes his last.

“Why did he have to die? Such a kind child… Why?! He’s only seven!”

Kenshiro hears Toyo’s cry of despair. Resolute, he shatters the rock layer to restore the well and drives off the bandits who came to seize it.

“A life unstained by evil is taken for just a little water… What a terrible era!”

It was his feelings for Taki that allowed Kenshiro to break the rock. Even for him, that soul-striking blow would not have been drawn out without such a tragedy. That is why he cannot forgive the bandits trying to steal the well, yet he spares their lives, erasing their memories and releasing them into the wild.

“Kenshiro’s frustration is palpable.” Viewers sympathize with the emotionally charged Kenshiro. But this is not the end. Next, Jackal, who has been watching everything, becomes the opponent.

“Jackal teaches you just how troublesome a bandit can be when he correctly recognizes Kenshiro’s strength.” As viewers expect, the next episode seems set to plunge into a direct confrontation with Jackal.

The next broadcast is Friday, May 22, at 1:00 a.m. What schemes will he employ to corner Kenshiro?
