Animation creator Kiyotaka Yamashita, known for directing opening visuals for notable anime such as “Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1”, “Chainsaw Man”, and “Urusei Yatsura”, making a vivid impression on anime fans worldwide, has directed his first feature-length film. This original animation, “Chou Kaguya Hime!”, is now streaming exclusively worldwide as a Netflix film.
Upon the release of the special trailer, it ranked #1 on YouTube’s “Trending Movies” chart, and with over 15 million total views on social media, the film garnered huge attention even before its streaming debut. After streaming began, it trended on X (formerly Twitter) and ranked high on Yahoo! Search’s rapidly rising terms. The day after release, it achieved #1 on Netflix’s “Top 10 Movies Today” in Japan, and also ranked high in multiple regions overseas, generating a global response.

This response and long-awaited fan support led to a theatrical release starting February 20 (Fri). At each theater, screenings sold out immediately after seat reservations opened, leading to an extension of the screening period and an expansion of theaters. The film surpassed 1 million cumulative attendees and 2 billion yen in box office revenue, with momentum continuing to grow.

Based on the concept of enjoying the film with “sound”, large-scale, high-quality audio equipment typically used for live concerts will be set up in the cinema to allow audiences to bask in the immersive sound of the film with overwhelming power and a live-concert feel. The festival will be held from June 2 (Tue) to June 11 (Thu), 2026 at MOVIX Yao (Yao City, Osaka).

During the festival period, live sound equipment will be brought in and set up specially in the MOVIX Yao theater, delivering a new experience that allows audiences to enjoy the film like a live concert, a sensation never before possible, providing a new wave of emotion.
