‘Takopi no Genzai’ Heads to Theaters
The anime adaptation of Taizan5’s hit manga Takopi no Genzai (Takopi’s Original Sin) has been announced for a theatrical release. A teaser trailer has been unveiled, and the original creator Taizan5 has shared a celebratory comment.
Originally serialized on the Shonen Jump+ app by Shueisha from December 2021, the manga became a sensation for its juxtaposition of the adorable Happy Star alien Takopi and the harsh realities faced by human children. The series set new records for readership and ranked 3rd in the “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” male division. Despite being a two-volume series, it has sold over 1.8 million copies including digital editions.
In June 2025, TBS Television and ENISHIYA brought the story to life as an anime. Though released as a streaming-exclusive series without a terrestrial broadcast, each new episode trended on social media, and the series won the Best Animation Award at the Filmarks Awards 2025. Its acclaim has spread worldwide: it was officially selected for the TV category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, and received seven nominations including Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2026.
Movie: ‘Takopi no Genzai -Arigatou, Mata Ashita-’
The film, titled Takopi no Genzai -Arigatou, Mata Ashita-, will combine all six episodes with a theatrical edit and additional new scenes. The teaser carries the message: “To all who met Takopi. Experience that story once again.” It shows the journey of Takopi, Shizuka, and the others, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the film’s heartfelt narrative.
