Tenmaku no Jaadougaru Anime Reveals Main Visual, Second PV, Opening Theme by SEKAI NO OWARI, and New Cast

The upcoming TV anime Tenmaku no Jaadougaru has released its main visual and second promotional video, along with the announcement that the opening theme will be performed by SEKAI NO OWARI.

The anime is based on the manga by Tomato Soup, serialized in Akita Shoten’s Souffle. Set in 13th-century Mongolia, it tells a harem drama of revenge and power struggles. The manga has earned critical acclaim: it ranked first in the female category of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023, was nominated for the Manga Taisho awards in both 2023 and 2024, and recently won the Grand Prize in the Comic Division of the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards. The animation is produced by Science SARU, known for Dandadan, The Heike Story, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

The newly unveiled main visual features Shitara and Doregene set against the vast Mongolian steppe, with horses and sheep in the background. The illustration is a fresh drawing by character designer and chief animation director Yoshida Kenichi, hinting at the epic tale that awaits the two characters after their fateful meeting.

The second PV introduces key characters from the Mongol Empire: Ogotai, the third son of Genghis Khan; the first son Juchi; the second son Chagatai; and Doregene, the other protagonist of the story. Shitara lost her homeland to the empire, and Doregene lost her family. Bound by a vow of revenge, the two set out to stir a storm within the world’s mightiest empire, foreshadowing the beginning of an epic narrative.

The opening theme has been confirmed as “Stella” by SEKAI NO OWARI, a band widely praised for their unique worldview and powerful live performances both in Japan and abroad. The song is composed by Nakajin with lyrics by Fukase, crafted to complement the grand scale and emotional depth of the anime.

New cast and character details have also been announced. The first son of Genghis Khan, Juchi, will be voiced by Nojima Kenji; the second son Chagatai by Namikawa Daisuke; and the third son Ogotai by Shimono Hiro. Doregene, the sixth wife of Ogotai who harbors a deep hatred for the Mongols due to her past, is played by Koshimizu Ami.

  • Juchi: Nojima Kenji
  • Chagatai: Namikawa Daisuke
  • Ogotai: Shimono Hiro
  • Doregene: Koshimizu Ami

Additionally, a world premiere screening of episodes 1–3 will be held on June 13, 2026. The event will feature cast appearances from Sekine Akira (Shitara), Koshimizu Ami (Doregene), Saitou Jun (Muhammad), Shimono Hiro (Ogotai), and Suzuki Ryouta (Tului). Tickets will go on sale via e-plus from May 30 at 10:00 AM.

Tenmaku no Jaadougaru will premiere on July 4, 2026, at 11:00 PM on the TV Asahi network’s nationwide “IMAnimation” slot and BS Asahi, with a special first episode that runs for two consecutive episodes.

Cast Comments

Koshimizu Ami (Doregene)

“This work is based on the historical facts of Mongolia’s long history, but the cute art style makes it very easy to understand. Despite the limited reference material, the thoughts and emotions of the characters come through vividly. There are also tense moments, such as verbal battles. For my part, in playing Doregene, I aimed to portray her not just as a witch but as a human being with hidden sensitivity. I hope everyone enjoys watching it.”

Shimono Hiro (Ogotai)

Tenmaku no Jaadougaru deals with the Mongol Empire, a subject I myself hadn’t been very familiar with. It revolves around the protagonist Shitara, who loses everything precious and vows revenge against the Mongol Empire, while depicting the lifestyle, customs, power relationships, and human connections within the imperial family. My role is Ogotai, Genghis Khan’s third son who later becomes the second emperor of the Mongol Empire. He is a character who loves alcohol and seems carefree, but there may be more to him—personally, I had a lot of fun playing him. Not just Ogotai but all the characters are fascinating. Please immerse yourself in this world while enjoying the beautiful visuals and music.”

Namikawa Daisuke (Chagatai)

“This work meticulously depicts cultures and customs that are rarely known in detail. There is a sharp perspective on human scheming and conflict, but the gentle touch of the artwork makes it easy to watch. I heard the staff visited the actual locations to soak up the atmosphere. The music also conveys the air of that time and place. I hope you thoroughly enjoy this exotic anime.”

Nojima Kenji (Juchi)

“The harsh currents of the 13th-century Mongol Empire—yet what catches the eye is the delicate, cute picture-book-like world. The story mercilessly confronts the cruel reality, where intellect is trampled by military force. That contrast, combined with the cute art style, makes the raw brilliance of life stand out clearly. Please look forward to the broadcast in July 2026. Join us in throwing yourself into this historical wave.”
