Demon Slayer Cosplayer Chimi Uses Real Fire to Recreate Tanjiro’s Shayou Tenshin, Garnering 2.6 Million Likes

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ protagonist Kamado Tanjiro cosplayer Chimi recreated the technique “Shayou Tenshin” from the series using real fire in a photo shoot. The making-of video posted on X (formerly Twitter) has garnered over 2.6 million likes, with viewers calling it “beyond the realm of cosplay” and comparing it to the making of a live-action film.

Comments such as “It’s amazing how far it goes beyond cosplay!” and “She really puts her body on the line!” poured in.

“Shayou Tenshin” is a technique that appears at a critical moment near the climax of the story. It involves the user flipping upside down in midair (like a backflip) and using the rotational momentum to deliver a sharp horizontal slash.

For this recreation, the studio used real fire. Chimi was suspended by wires in midair, and rather than a lightweight prop sword, she wielded a heavy “mosoutou” (imitation sword).

Followers were astonished by the dedication to using actual fire, with comments like “Using real fire and even hanging upside down is too serious” and “Too real… it looks like she’s alive.” Chimi explained her motivation:

“No matter how much my arms hurt or how tough the position was during shooting, I kept thinking, ‘Tanjiro is also working hard, so I want to do my best too!’ and I was able to endure.”

The point she emphasized was the expression on Tanjiro’s face when he enters the “Transparent World” and unleashes Shayou Tenshin. “In other photos, I made intense expressions like furrowing my brow or clenching my teeth, but at this moment, I think I was able to achieve an expression of ‘a state of nothingness without hatred or anger,'” she said.

Handling a heavy imitation sword, Chimi gained a real understanding of the harshness the Demon Slayer Corps endures as they risk their lives in battle. In that moment when she pushed beyond her physical limits, perhaps the character’s soul dwelled within her.

Regarding the reaction after posting, she said cheerfully, “I was truly happy that my love for the character was properly conveyed. The next day’s muscle soreness made me proud.” She added, “I realized my lack of strength, so I want to train more. Next time, I want to try a shoot underwater, which I failed at before, and succeed.”

That single photo recreating Tanjiro dancing in flames is not just a cosplay—it is a record of a moment when the cosplayer communed with the character’s heart. The miracle born from passion, technique, and the power of “love” continues to captivate people on social media.
