Supermarket Smoking Duo ABEMA Early Release Set for June 3 with Special OP/ED Versions

The upcoming TV anime Suupaa no Ura de Yani Suu Futari (Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You) will debut an ABEMA-exclusive early distribution version on Wednesday, June 3 at 20:30 JST. This special edition features unique opening and ending theme songs tailored specifically for the streaming release.

Based on the manga by Jinushi, which began serialization on Twitter (now X) on March 9, 2022, the series quickly gained traction—its first chapter amassed over 280,000 likes. It later moved to the monthly magazine Big Gangan and won first place in the Web Manga category at the Next Manga Award 2022. As of July 2025, cumulative sales of the compiled volumes have exceeded 2.5 million copies.

The story follows Sasaki, a weary middle-aged salaryman who finds quiet solace in his daily cigarette breaks and the warm service of Yamada, a female clerk at his go-to supermarket. One night, exhausted from work, he heads to the store seeking his usual comfort, only to find Yamada absent and nowhere to smoke. Just as he feels deflated, a woman named Tayama, sporting rather eccentric attire, calls out to him: “You can smoke here.” Thus begins an adult drama of unexpected companionship behind the supermarket. In the anime, Sasaki is voiced by Satou Takuya, while Yamada/Tayama is voiced by Hoshiki Seina.

The ABEMA limited early version’s opening theme is “Kuzuri Nen” performed by Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni., who also provide the TV broadcast version’s OP. The newly released non-credit OP video depicts Sasaki, burdened by overwork, finding solace in the store clerk Yamada, then heading back to face his job—all set to the band’s emotionally resonant track.

Scenes of Tayama beckoning from the smoking area behind the supermarket, the two sharing cigarettes and casual conversation through the changing seasons are interwoven throughout the video. Accompanied by Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.’s music that embraces loneliness, the special footage builds anticipation for the adult drama.

For the ED, ABEMA viewers will hear imase’s “NIGHT DANCER,” the same artist who performs the TV version’s ending. In the non-credit ED video, the pop and comfortable melody frames everyday moments from Yamada/Tayama’s perspective.

After her shift as a supermarket worker, she meets Sasaki at their “usual spot” behind the store, where they share trivial yet precious time together.

imase’s gentle vocals and lyrics themed around “night” softly envelop the bond between Sasaki and Tayama forged in that back-alley smoking area, creating a truly special video.

Both the OP and ED are specially provided for the ABEMA early release, featuring animation footage distinct from the TV broadcast version that begins in July. The early version will split the first six episodes into approximately 10-minute shorts, shown in order.

Additionally, the title of the TV broadcast version’s OP theme—also by Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.—has been revealed as “Ichijiku Kemuri.” A second main PV using this song is scheduled to be unveiled later. Fans can look forward to seeing how music that resonates with Yani Suu will color the series.
