The upcoming TV anime Tenmaku no Jaadugar has announced that Mongolian-born active sumo wrestlers Tamawashi (Tamawashi-zeki) and Tamashoho (Tamashoho-zeki) will join the voice cast. The series is set to premiere on July 4, 2026, in the “IMAnimation” slot on TV Asahi and affiliates, including BS Asahi. The first episode will be a two-episode hour-long special, followed by weekly broadcasts every Saturday at 11:30 p.m.

Based on the historical manga by Tomato Soup serialized in Akita Shoten’s Souffle, the story unfolds in 13th-century Mongolia. It follows Shitara (Fatima), a former slave girl taken prisoner by the Mongol Empire, and Doregene, the sixth wife of the Mongol emperor, who harbors her own complex feelings toward the empire. Together they use their wits to shake the foundations of the empire.
The anime is helmed by chief director Yamada Naoko and director Abel Gongora, with animation production by Science SARU—the studio behind acclaimed works such as Dandadan, The Heike Story, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!. Cast members include Sekine Akira as Shitara, Koshimizu Ami as Doregene, Kuwashima Houko as Fatima, Saito Jun as Muhammad, Shimono Hiro as Ogotai, Suzuki Ryota as Tolui, Irino Miyu as Shira, Namikawa Daisuke as Chagatai, and Nojima Kenji as Jochi.
Tamawashi-zeki, who belongs to the Katayanagi stable, will voice Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongol Empire. Tamashoho-zeki takes on the role of a formidable Mongol soldier. As both wrestlers are from Mongolia, they also voice additional characters in the series.
Commenting on their first voice acting experience, Tamawashi-zeki said, “At first it was difficult, but I gradually got used to it and think I did well in the end.” Tamashoho-zeki, who describes himself as an anime fan, added, “I had always wanted to try something like this, but I couldn’t do it well at all—which showed me just how challenging it is. It was a lot of fun, and it was a really great experience.”
When asked how they felt when they received the offer, Tamawashi-zeki recalled, “I wondered what it would be like, but I was happy to have been offered the role.” Tamashoho-zeki shared his joy: “I’ve always loved anime and manga, so I was thrilled from the start and immediately interested.”
The opening theme is “Stella” by SEKAI NO OWARI. The series will be available on streaming platforms starting July 4, the same day as the terrestrial broadcast.
