The original anime film GROTESQQQUE (グロテスク), directed by Nishigori Atsushi and produced by CloverWorks, will be released nationwide in Japan on November 6, 2026. A trailer and key visual have been unveiled, and details about the opening theme and advance movie ticket (Mubichike) sales have also been revealed.
The film is a collaboration between director and animator Nishigori Atsushi and studio CloverWorks. Nishigori, known for directing The iDOLM@STER and Darling in the Franxx, and serving as chief animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, takes on the roles of director, scriptwriter, and original character designer. CloverWorks, the studio behind hits like SPY×FAMILY and Bocchi the Rock!, handles production. The pair previously worked together on Darling in the Franxx and the 2021 concept movie VOY@GER for the iDOLM@STER series.
The cast features a wide range of talent, including Anzai Chika, Ichinose Kana, Ichinose Miku (Nogizaka46), Inoue Nagi (Nogizaka46), Uchida Maaya, Okubo Rumi, Kugimiya Rie, Tomisato Nao (Nogizaka46), Tomita Miyu, Nakanishi Aruno (Nogizaka46), Hasegawa Ikumi, Hayami Saori, Hoshino Gen, and Minami Sara, listed in alphabetical order. Additionally, a large group of artists will contribute music to the film’s world, including ASCA, Akki, Ichinose Mika, VaVa, eba, Otoha, Uekita Ken, Sato Kotoko (yutori), sabio/Takamura Futa, SEE, Shizaki Kano, Shinozaki Ayato, Junna, Suisou, Surii, TAKU INOUE, Tachibana Ryosuke, tsumiki, Nakajima Yushi (Gusokumuzu), Nakano+, Natsukawa Shiina, Nanahira, Noguchi Iori (=LOVE), Hane, Hashimero, Horii Shota, Myuk, MIRI, METALVERSE, Momosumomosu, Yagi Kairi, Yasuda Rei, Yuyoyuppe, Runaar, and Reol, also in alphabetical order.
The film is composed of three distinct segments with different settings. Ellyans follows an alien girl who teams up with a civil servant at a space agency to search for ‘friends’ in a comedic rush. Yoroshiku Shojo (夜露死駆★少女) is a chaotic battle royale where girls called ‘Gyaru P’ gather to compete for victory in the game Queen of Butterfly. Nocturne: On This Grotesque Night (ノクターン～このグロテスクな夜に～) depicts a pure-blood vampire and three girls who survive by being bitten and ‘infected’ by her, traveling through a post-apocalyptic world in a wagon.
The opening theme song for the film is titled ‘Shoot Shoot Shoot’ and is performed by METALVERSE (VERSE BY VERSE MUSIC). METALVERSE expressed their joy at being chosen, commenting: ‘We are very happy to be in charge of the opening theme for the movie GROTESQQQUE. The theme song “Shoot Shoot Shoot” connects to each of the works, and the wonderful visuals and music overlap scene by scene. After watching all three works, we felt as if we had seen a single story, and we wanted to watch it again and again. We hope everyone enjoys our music along with this movie.’
