The summer anime Tetsunabe no Jan! has released the synopsis and preview cuts for its first episode, titled “Encounter with Flame” (炎との出逢い), which will begin airing on July 5, 2026.

Tetsunabe no Jan! is based on the manga by Saijou Shinji, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion and has sold over 10 million copies. It follows the demonic Chinese chef Jan (Akiyama Shou) who will stop at nothing to defeat his opponents, turning cooking into a thrilling spectacle. This legendary work is finally receiving its first TV anime adaptation.
Directed by Aoki Ei, the anime is produced by TROYCA. Series composition is by Uezu Makoto, character design and chief animation direction by Matsumoto Masako, cooking animation direction by Okuda Jun and Hanamura Chihiro, and main animator by Makino Ryuichi. Other staff include color design by Shinohara Mariko, art direction by Naito Ken, photography direction by Tsuda Ryosuke, CG direction by Inoue Mitsutaka, editing by Uyama Shota, cooking supervision and coordination by Sato Takako, cooking science supervision by Higuchi Naoya, music by Kikutani Tomoki, sound effects by Baba Masami, sound direction by Aketagawa Jin, and sound production by Magic Capsule. The opening theme is “Kaen” by Genin wa Jibun ni Aru. (SDR/Polydor Records), and the ending theme is “Naita Akuma” by Emu ni Mini (Polydor Records).
The cast includes Togashi Kikunosuke as Jan (Akiyama Shou), Hasegawa Ikumi as Gobancho Kiriko, Amasaki Kouhei as Okonogi Takao (note: 崎 is read “tatsusaki”), M・A・O as Serene Yang, Sakurai Takahiro as Sawada Kei, Murata Taishi as Xun Zhixiu, Kobayashi Yusuke as Kawahara Yuji, Sugita Tomokazu, Amada Masuo as Ootani Nittou, and Tsuda Kenjiro as narrator.
Episode 1 “Encounter with Flame” Synopsis
After closing time at the famous Chinese restaurant “Ginza Gobancho Hanten”, a man orders fried rice. After tasting it, he throws the fried rice into the trash and shouts:
“Is this supposed to be cooking? I shouldn’t have come! Akiyama is the best! Akiyama is the King of Chinese Cuisine!”
The first episode of Tetsunabe no Jan! will air on July 5, 2026 (Sunday) at 5:30 PM on the TV Tokyo network of six stations: TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyushu. Streaming will be available on Anime Times, ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Houdai from 6 PM on July 5, with other services following from July 12.
