The special edition of Blue Lock volume 40 will include eight clear files featuring the cast of the live-action film adaptation, and the designs have been revealed.
Blue Lock is a soccer manga by writer Kaneshiro Muneyuki and artist Nomura Yusuke, serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The story follows the “Blue Lock” project, an initiative by the Japan Football Union to develop a striker who can lead Japan to a World Cup victory. Three hundred high school forwards from across the country are gathered and forced into a brutal survival competition. The series has become a phenomenon, with its innovative premise, ego-driven characters, and unpredictable plot captivating readers both in Japan and abroad. The original manga has surpassed 50 million copies in cumulative circulation. In addition to the TV anime that began in 2022, the franchise has expanded into a theatrical anime in 2024, a smartphone game, and a stage play.
The special edition of Blue Lock volume 40, releasing on August 17, 2026 (Monday), commemorates the upcoming live-action film. It comes with eight clear files featuring the film’s cast in newly photographed designs.
