The summer 2026 anime Yani Neko has released a synopsis and preview images for its second episode, titled “Nyaa no Kouhai-tachi nya” (ニャーの後輩たちにゃ), which begins airing on July 9, 2026 (Thursday).
Yani Neko is a comedy based on the manga by Nyan Nyan Factory, serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. It follows a group of irredeemably lazy, nicotine-addicted cat beastmen living in a world where humans and beastmen coexist. With no money, no life skills, and no manners, these scruffy cats spend their days smoking, lounging, and getting into trouble. Despite their grimy lifestyle, they somehow manage to live fulfilling days. The manga gained popularity on social media for being “pretty dirty but somehow encouraging,” and now it’s getting a TV anime adaptation.
Episode 2 Synopsis
Yani Neko runs out of cigarettes and goes to borrow one from his neighbor and junior, Yaku Neko. Despite being thrown off by Yaku Neko’s strange behavior, the two end up hanging out together. But with suspicious smoke and suspicious actions, there’s nothing but unease from every angle.
When Yani Neko is urged to get a part-time job, he begins to lecture Yaku Neko about his “free way of life.”
