New merchandise from Sakigake!! Otokojuku is now on sale at the official pTa.shop. The lineup adds 12 brand-new T-shirts featuring fan-favorite characters such as O Daisan, Akaishi Goji, and Date Omito, joining the existing popular collection.
The Legacy of Otokojuku
Created by Miyashita Akira, Sakigake!! Otokojuku began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1985, marking its 40th anniversary. The 1980s hard-boiled battle manga was adapted into a TV anime in 1988 and also received a theatrical film. Set in a school where delinquent youths gather, the story follows their brutal training and deadly fights, forging friendship and true manhood. The series gained passionate support from young readers at the time, and its theme song, performed by Isseifuu Sepia (featuring Yanagiba Toshiro and Aikawa Sho), also became a hit. Over four decades, it has continued to captivate fans through sequels, spin-offs, stage adaptations, and web anime releases.
Modern Designs, Timeless Spirit
The new T-shirts transform the iconic moments and characters of the series into stylish, modern graphics. From Tsurugi Momotarou, the top first-year student, to Akaishi Goji, the top second-year, and Date Omito, the leader of the Kantou Gougakuren, these designs bring back the heat of those battles.
The “Sakigake!! Otokojuku / School Principal Edajima Heihachi: Shintou Metsukyaku” T-shirt boldly features the principal’s famous line, “Shintou metsukyaku sureba hi mo mata suzushi ja—!!” (If you clear your mind, even fire feels cool!). Another design, “Third Helper,” captures the mysterious man who appears as the “third helper” — who is obviously Edajima himself — with his overwhelming presence.
For fans of the infamous “Shiho Kakunin” (Death Confirmation) scene, the “O Daisan T-shirt (Front)” displays the deputy headmaster, said to be equal to Edajima in strength. The “O Daisan: Shiho Kakunin T-shirt (Two-Sided)” prints the famous phrase on the front, while the back shows O Daisan calmly slurping ramen.
Other designs include the “Toramaru Ryuuji T-shirt (banana)” and the “Baron Dino Type A (hazy green)”, featuring the third-year student from the Chinju Chokuro Sanninshu with his trademark smirk and the ace of spades. The “Hien T-shirt (Back Print)” is also available.
The collection adds a powerful dose of “otokogokoro” (manly spirit) and playfulness to daily wear. Each piece is a must-have for fans of the series.
