The TV anime Dark Gathering is set to return for a second season, with a 2027 broadcast date now confirmed. To coincide with the announcement, the first horror visual has been released, depicting the spirit of A Dam rising from the shadows of a dimly lit inspection corridor deep within a dam. The official website also appears to be showing some unexplained activity, so fans may want to check it out.
Based on the manga by Kondo Kenichi, Dark Gathering has been serialized in Shueisha’s Monthly Jump SQ since 2019, with cumulative comic sales surpassing 3 million copies. The story begins when Houtarou, a college student with a spiritual medium constitution, meets the mysterious prodigy Yayoi, who is searching for her dead mother’s soul that was taken by evil spirits. Together with his childhood friend Eiko, Houtarou forms a partnership with Yayoi to battle spirits across Japan.
The first season of the anime aired from July to December 2023, with Hiroshi Ikehata directing and OLM handling animation production. The cast includes Shinohara Yuu as Hozuki Yayoi, Shimazaki Nobunaga as Gendouga Keitarou, Hanazawa Kana as Hozuki Eiko, and Kawaguchi Rina as Kamishiro Ai, with Nakamura Yoshihiro providing narration.
Now, the second season has been confirmed for a 2027 broadcast. The story will shift to Kyoto and adapt the ‘Jouraku’ chapter (#34) from volume 9 of the original manga. In the newly unveiled horror visual, the spirit of A Dam stands eerily within a dam inspection gallery, carrying a bone-chilling coldness. In addition, the official website seems to be exhibiting some strange behavior at the moment—so be sure to visit.
