Two anime films are set to make their television premieres on the free-to-air channel BS12 TwellV’s “Sunday Anime Theater” this October. On October 18, the HD remaster of the 1994 animated film Street Fighter II Movie will air, followed on October 25 by the 2025 film Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu.
Street Fighter II Movie HD Remaster
Street Fighter II Movie brings together all the essence of the popular fighting game Street Fighter II in a theatrical anime released in 1994. It was produced with Capcom handling production, original story, and settings, with animation by Group TAC under director Sugii Gisaburo. The HD remastered version will air on television for the first time.
The story takes place a few years after Ryu defeats Sagat. The criminal syndicate Shadowlaw extends its reach across the world, causing a wave of terrorist activities. Interpol, taking the situation seriously, teams up with the U.S. Air Force to launch an operation to destroy Shadowlaw. Meanwhile, Shadowlaw’s leader Vega deploys spy robots called “monitor cyborgs” to find bodies with exceptional fighting abilities. The most promising target is Ryu, a martial artist who continues his journey and street fights with the goal of finding someone stronger than himself.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu is the first theatrical film for the Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon series, released in 2025. Kyoto Animation, known for A Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden, brings a heartwarming story of family and bonds. This film also marks its television premiere.
Based on the original manga by Coolkyoushinja serialized in Futabasha’s Manga Action, the popular episode is reborn on a grand scale. The dragons are drawn to the ordinary office worker Kobayashi-san and gather around her. Among them is the young dragon Kanna, who receives a sudden visitor claiming to be her real father.
