The TV anime adaptation of Kakunaru Ue wa is officially set to premiere in January 2027. The announcement comes with character visuals, the first promotional video, and additional main staff information.
A Secret Pseudo-Romance Between Two Manga Artists
Kakunaru Ue wa is a manga by Takahata Yumi (original story) and Kaba Yuuji (art), serialized in Young Animal and Young Animal Web. The story follows Uehara Yuuki, a high school boy who loves the 2D world and dreams of becoming a manga artist, and his classmate Miyamoto Niina, a gal who secretly dreams of becoming a manga artist as well. Their secret pseudo-romance, started for the sake of manga, launches a romantic comedy at the heart of dreams and youth.
The first PV shows the energetic gal heroine Nina and the protagonist Yuuki, both aiming to become manga artists, in a bittersweet yet passionate youth story. The announcement teaser also features the line, "Chou unmei jan! Atashi to tsukiatte kurenai!?"
Characters and Cast
Uehara Yuuki (CV: Murase Ayumu) is a high school student who loves 2D and wants to be a manga artist. He is introverted and has a negative side, but pours extraordinary passion into the things he loves.
Miyamoto Niina (CV: Suzushiro Sayumi) is a bright, energetic, and strongest gal who is affectionately called Nina by those around her. Like Yuuki, she dreams of becoming a manga artist, and she proposes a pseudo-romance for manga.

Nina Day Campaign and Official TikTok
Because the 27th of every month is ‘Nina Day,’ the series is holding a special present campaign on the 27th of each month. On September 27 (Sunday), an original clear file featuring a new drawn illustration of Nina, which was distributed at Kyoumafu 2026, will be given away.
The anime’s official TikTok account has also launched. The account is scheduled to release the latest official anime information sequentially, so fans are encouraged to follow it.

The original manga is published by Hakusensha under the Young Animal Comics label. It is serialized in Young Animal and Young Animal Web, and volumes 1 through 7 are on sale, with the latest volume 8 scheduled for release on September 29.
