Biburia Koshodou no Jiken Techou Anime Premieres April 2027, Reveals PV and Additional Cast

The TV anime adaptation of Mikami En’s Biburia Koshodou no Jiken Techou will begin broadcasting in April 2027. The announcement was accompanied by the first main PV, additional cast members, and character visuals for protagonists Shinokawa Shioriko and Iura Daisuke.

Mikami En’s Biburia Koshodou no Jiken Techou, published by Media Works Bunko / KADOKAWA, is a major bestseller with more than 8.5 million copies in circulation across the series. The series is also celebrating the 15th anniversary since the release of its first volume. Set in the secondhand bookstore Biburia Koshodou, quietly tucked away in a corner of Kamakura, the old-book mystery follows owner Shinokawa Shioriko as she unravels the mysteries and stories hidden within old books.

To mark the April 2027 broadcast, the first main PV has been released. Under the catchphrase ‘Sono yubisaki ga, himitsu o mekuru──’ (‘Those fingertips turn the pages of secrets──’), the video features protagonist Shinokawa Shioriko and Iura Daisuke, along with new characters Shinokawa Fumika, Shida, Kasai Kikuya, and Kosuge Nao.

The additional cast includes Osanai Reo as Shinokawa Fumika, Takagi Wataru as Shida, Azakami Youhei as Kasai Kikuya, and Kamijou Saeko as Kosuge Nao. Osanai described Fumika as a bright and sociable girl who is the polar opposite of her older sister Shioriko, and expressed excitement that the work’s unique worldview will be brought to life through animation.

Character visuals for Shinokawa Shioriko and Iura Daisuke were also unveiled. Each is depicted holding a book, drawing attention to the mysteries and stories hidden in the old books the two will unravel.

Cast Comments

Shinokawa Fumika: Osanai Reo

I am very happy to be able to participate in this long-loved work. Through old books, the pasts and feelings of various people are gradually unraveled. It is fantastical yet realistic, and I was drawn into this work’s unique worldview while reading. Fumika is a bright and sociable girl, the polar opposite of her older sister Shioriko, but I think the warmth unique to sisters between them is also one of the charms. I am already looking forward to the worldview of this work expressed through animation.

Shida: Takagi Wataru

I am Takagi Wataru, playing Shida. At first glance he seems like a suspicious old man, but he is second to none in his passion for books and his skill as a used-book scout (lol). While unraveling the memories and secrets of people inscribed in old books, I had a lot of fun exchanging lines with Akechi-san as Shioriko and Takeuchi-kun as Daisuke. I want to play Shida’s earthiness and charm vividly, with a bit of playfulness in my own way. Please look forward to it.

Kasai Kikuya: Azakami Youhei

While engaging with this work, I realized I had not been reading books recently, so I deliberately picked up a paper novel. The images that swell with each turn of the page, the feel and rustle of paper. I remembered the joy of touching books after a long time. Kasai Kikuya, whom I play, is a used-book scout called ‘Danshaku’ (Baron) by Shida, and I approached the recording with my love for books expanded. Thank you very much.

Kosuge Nao: Kamijou Saeko

When I met her through text, I thought, what a devoted and hard-to-leave-alone girl she is. Before any awareness of the audition, I remember feeling something like protectiveness. I decided in my heart, ‘If I meet her again, it will be when I hear the word pass!’ and lined up the original novels deep in my bookshelf. Then on the day the acceptance notice arrived, I immediately reached for them and rejoiced in reuniting with her. The connection she brought me is my treasure. I will perform with all my heart.
