Animator and character designer Katsura Kenichirou, known for his work on Macross 7 and Knight’s & Magic, died on September 30. He was 59. A funeral service was held by close relatives.
His wife and fellow animator Miyachi Satoko announced the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. She said Katsura died while receiving medical treatment.
Miyachi expressed gratitude to the fans who loved the works and designs Katsura was involved in during his lifetime, as well as to the production companies, staff, and related parties who worked with him.
The official X account for the Knight’s & Magic anime also paid tribute, offering condolences on behalf of the staff.
Career highlights
Katsura handled character design and chief animation direction for Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! and Synduality: Noir.
He also served as chief animation director for Grisaia no Kajitsu, Grisaia no Meikyuu, and Grisaia no Rakuen.
In 2009-2010, he directed and designed the characters for the Utawarerumono OVA.
