A franchise record at the box office

Meitantei Precure! is the 23rd entry in the Precure series. The story begins when Akechi Anna, on her birthday in 2027, meets a fairy named Pochitan and is wrapped in a mysterious light that sends her back to 1999. In that year, she meets Kobayashi Mikuru, a girl who admires detectives, and the self-proclaimed genius fairy scientist Jet-senpai. Anna decides to become a proper detective at the Kyuatto Detective Agency, transforming into Meitantei Precure to recover clients’ precious belongings from the phantom thief group Phantom and take on difficult cases.

The film opened on September 18 and has grossed more than 1.24 billion yen, becoming the highest-grossing standalone film in the Precure movie series.

Fairy cast comments

Pochitan: Katou Emiri

Katou said the story was highly relatable to her and that she could not watch it without tears. She called Pochitan very cute and very active, and highlighted that the character gets to talk more than usual. Her own crying point came during the opening: seeing everyone projected on the big screen made her cry.

Shushutan: Isobe Karin

Isobe described the film as a work with many parts that adults can deeply relate to, one that may even bring them to tears. She also sees it as a story that children may remember when they grow up and that will push them forward. Quoting the "First Step" lyric "So even on a pathless road, believe in miracles and go on," she said she will continue facing forward while the work encourages her.

Mashutan: Yomiya Hina

Yomiya thanked viewers for watching and supporting the film. She said she was very happy to support the Precures as Mashutan, and reflected that some things cannot be done alone but can be done with everyone. She hopes the feelings people found important through Precure will continue to be important to them.

Jet-senpai: Kaji Yuuki

Kaji said he has been hearing "I watched the movie Tanpuri!" everywhere and that he secretly cannot stop his Pretty Smile (laughs). He noted that the film may be his child’s first cinema experience, and said he would be happiest watching them wave the Pochitan Miracle Light and cheer for the Precures with all their might.

New fairy cuts and "First Step" lyric video

New scene cuts show Pochitan swelling up large, Shushutan’s cute expression upon finding Rain, Mashutan leading Pochitan and Shushutan, and Jet-senpai providing a nice assist. The "First Step" lyric video includes film scenes featuring Karin, the girl met in the mysterious garden; Alan and Rain, the fairies who care for her; and Meitantei Precure in action.
