Workman is best known for workwear and outdoor apparel, but anime fans have been paying closer attention to its collaboration clothing. The appeal lies in designs that range from playful, fan-focused graphics to simple pieces that fit into daily life—and in prices that are unusually low for anime apparel.
A Workman TikTok video highlights the 2026 A/W anime and character collaboration lineup, including JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken, Boku no Hero Academia, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, and Jujutsu Kaisen. The video covers items scheduled for release between September and December 2026 and notes that Workman is rolling out new anime collaborations every month.
Collaborations with Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Boku no Hero Academia, and Sanrio Characters have been launched one after another, and first-day sellouts are not uncommon. The AnimeAnime! editorial team visited a Workman new-product presentation to see the apparel in person and spoke with the person in charge of anime and IP collaborations about the strategy and its growing popularity.

Why Workman Is Turning to Anime: Bringing in New Shoppers
The first question is why a workwear company like Workman would focus on anime IP. According to the person in charge, the goal is to bring in customers who have not visited Workman before. Anime works serve as an entry point: people learn about the store, visit a location, and ideally move on to purchases. The collaborations are positioned as a way to develop new users.
Still, Workman’s full-scale push into anime is recent. The effort began about two years ago, and it moved into higher gear in last year’s fall/winter season. The representative described it as a category that has only just begun to be strengthened, with planning continuing each season. It is very much a growth area.

‘Buzz’ Is the Keyword, With a 60-40 Female-to-Male Target
For anime fans, one obvious question is how Workman chooses titles. The person in charge said the key factor is whether a work can generate buzz. The company centers on titles with many female fans and strong potential to spread on social media, while paying close attention to anime broadcast and film-release timing. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Sousou no Frieren were named as representative examples. Products are released when a work is at its peak—such as the start of a new season or a theatrical release.
The target audience is roughly 60% women and 40% men. The reasoning is that these fans are active on social media, post photos often, and can spread topics effectively. At the same time, Workman tries not to skew the lineup only toward women, aiming for a balance that can reach a wide range of fans.

Subtle Designs That Fit Everyday Life
On the design side, a major point is that the items are not ‘full otaku’ apparel. They are everyday clothes that incorporate a work’s worldview quietly. Typical anime apparel often features large character prints, but Workman takes a nearly opposite approach: pieces that are easy to wear in daily life, look normal in public, and still express the work in a subtle way.
That subtlety is likely to appeal to people who feel a little hesitation about wearing anime goods. Being able to wear the clothes without self-consciousness, even around people who are not fans, is a real attraction.

Original Drawings, Not Just Existing Art
Workman also places importance on newly drawn designs rather than simply using existing art or visuals. Many collaboration apparel lines rely on already released artwork, but Workman adopts a large number of original designs by its designers. The person in charge emphasized this as a major strength. Original designs available only through these collaborations can stir fans’ urge to collect.

Workman Quality at Anime-Apparel Prices
Then there is the price. T-shirts are offered at 980 yen, sweatshirts at around 1,900 yen, and jackets at around 2,500 yen. For anime-related apparel, that is remarkably affordable. According to the representative, some customers buy every type because of the low prices.
The clothes are not merely cheap. Workman keeps the quality it has built through workwear, without compromising on fabric or functionality. The combination of price and quality is a strong weapon that is hard to match elsewhere.
Reaction to the collaboration apparel has been considerable. The representative said many customers learn about items through social media, popular products sell out soon after release, and some stores see items disappear on the first day. Because products change monthly, the sense that an item may never be available again adds to the popularity.

Standout Items from the Presentation
Here are a few items seen during the interview that stood out to the editorial team.
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken items were especially memorable. One T-shirt has a Stand printed on the back, while another uses the familiar phrase ‘to be continued.’ The playful touches are designed to make fans smile—details that reward those in the know.

From Jujutsu Kaisen came a sweatshirt that makes you look twice. Its design incorporates the scene featuring Zen’in Naoya’s ‘Hito no kokoro toka nai n ka?’ line, giving it strong potential to become a talking point online. The subtle adjustment that keeps it wearable in everyday life feels very much like Workman.

The Sanrio Characters collaboration offered an unexpected pleasure. It includes sizes up to 120, meaning children’s clothing, so depending on the IP, families can enjoy the items from kids to adults. Parent-child matching outfits seem possible, showing Workman’s breadth.

Workman’s anime collaboration apparel offers both easy-to-wear designs and colors and designs that go full ‘otaku.’ The items carefully express each work’s worldview down to the details while also providing functional features such as storage capacity and water-repellent processing. The ‘seriousness’ of Workman comes through clearly.
The collaborations are set to continue. However, the company is not aiming to release huge quantities every month; it will prioritize a sense of limited availability. The lineup is also expected to expand beyond clothing to bags such as wallet shoulder bags and other miscellaneous goods, depending on how well they fit each work.

The apparel is worth picking up not only for anime fans but also for people who have previously kept their distance from anime goods. As a fan, it is exciting to imagine this collaboration wave spreading further in the anime industry.
