‘Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?’ Episode 6: Wedding, Fireworks, and a Shocking Confession – Special ED Covers Mariya Takeuchi’s ‘Plastic Love’

The spring anime Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?‘s sixth period (Episode 6) titled ‘Love?’ aired on May 6, 2026. Summer vacation has begun, and protagonist ‘Otaku-kun’ Takuya Segawa enjoyed a BBQ with the gals, but this time he gets invited by cool beauty gal Kei Amami!?

Key visual for TV anime Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?

The manga by Norishiro-chan (story) and Sakana Uozumi (art) serialized in Coamix’s Monthly Comic Zenon, the TV anime adaptation started on April 8. It is a romantic comedy about otaku high school student Takuya Segawa (Otaku-kun), who is an inconspicuous introvert, as he deepens his relationship with two different types of gals in his class (Kei Amami and Kotoko Ijichi) through shared hobbies.

Kei, who claims to know the girls’ anime Kyarin Monpet (Kiramon) through her little sister but insists she’s not an otaku, and cheerful Kotoko Ijichi, who gets taught about Kiramon by Otaku-kun and Kei and grows even closer. Are there really gals who are kind to otaku?

※The following text contains spoilers for those who have not watched the episode. Please be careful when reading.

From Episode 5, summer vacation began for Otaku-kun. Last time he enjoyed a BBQ at the beach with Ijichi’s older brothers and got a glimpse of the gals’ healthy swimsuit figures.

In Episode 6, from the start Otaku-kun gets invited by Kei. The place he rushes to is somehow a wedding hall. Kei was asked by her mother, a hair and makeup artist, to model for photos, and she was told to bring one male friend. She chose Otaku-kun, and he ends up having to model together with her.

“I don’t have any other male friends I can call…”

With those words, Otaku-kun decides ‘just this once,’ but even after changing into a white tuxedo, he feels completely out of place.

Then Kei enters in a wedding dress, and the internet erupted with comments like: “She looks beautiful in the wedding dress…” “The dress is super cute and super pretty” “I was surprised Kei-san’s mom is young and beautiful” “Inviting him to an event like this definitely means he has a chance (lol)” and more.

Sho Komura, who voices Otaku-kun and live-tweets every week, commented: “Kei’s mom is too beautiful!!!” “Takuya looks cool!!!” and Konomi Inagaki, voicing Kei, also chimed in: “Kei’s mom is cute and cool~!!” “Oh my~~~~”.

Bumping into Ijichi-san!

When Otaku-kun tries to buy a cold drink from a vending machine, Ijichi suddenly appears and stops him, saying “What are you doing with that!”

The vending machine is located at the discount store ‘Chouan no Dentou Gon-Kihoutei’ where you can buy drinks at half price if you go inside. Ijichi grabs Otaku-kun’s arm and says “Let’s go!” as they head into the store.

After buying drinks and taking a break, Ijichi tries to get Otaku-kun to talk about what happened at Kei’s house. She then says, “Want to come to my place too?” and then “The real fun starts now!” as she leads him on a store tour. When she gets a call from a friend, she says, “Let’s go on another date!” and leaves briskly. It wasn’t just to kill time after all!?

Gals in Yukata: Heart-throbbing!

Summer vacation has one week left. Otaku-kun goes to a fireworks festival with Kei and Ijichi. On the day, he gets flustered by their yukata outfits.

In the crowd, Ijichi says, “Should we hold hands so we don’t get separated? Like a couple?” and Kei learns about the discount store incident.

She asks, “What’s that? I didn’t hear about this,” and somehow they end up holding hands in a three-way link. Otaku-kun has a gal in each hand.

The three get excited finding Kiramon masks, try shooting at stalls, eat grilled squid… Then Kei meets a middle school classmate and splits off for a bit.

Otaku-kun is left alone with Ijichi.

When the fireworks start, Otaku-kun cries as he remembers the fun summer. While watching the fireworks, Ijichi feels her heart pounding (Something’s wrong…) and then…

“Hey, I like you. Otaku-kun.”

Ijichi suddenly confesses!!!! …or so we thought, then she adds: “That ‘like’ is a ‘like’ as a friend!” Viewers reacted: “She dodged it w” “A cowardly gal” “It was a ‘like’ w” “She chickened out…” “There’s someone who chickened out!!?” “Wha-!” Otaku-kun also scratched his head saying “I was surprised.”

Scene cut from Episode 5: Kei’s feelings…

Kei learns about Ijichi’s confession. The internet watches warmly as the three’s relationship begins to change.

“It feels like Ijichi-san is one step ahead, but the three are getting closer and closer, which is great!”
“Will it turn into a messy love triangle with them fighting over Otaku-kun?”

“Maybe Ijichi-san’s romantic feelings are moving faster since they started as friends with common interests?”
“Ijichi-san, watching fireworks alone with Otaku-kun, it’s clearly blossomed.”
“Stop the fighting… just share him (lol)”
“The anime-original scene from Kei’s perspective was very lovely.”
“A heart-pounding episode, it was great.”
“At least we took one step forward. Interesting!”
“Man, what a good episode…”

Then as the ending begins, different visuals and a light intro start playing. A special ED?

The song is Ijichi’s (Konomi Inagaki’s) cover of Mariya Takeuchi’s classic ‘Plastic Love’!

“The ending is summer festival-themed!!” “So stylish!!” “A special ED at the climax! And a cover of Mariya Takeuchi! That’s cheating w” “The song choice for the cover is too good” “Nostalgic Plastic Love www” “Ijichi-san’s Plastic Love is cute” “A surprise Plastic Love cover in OtaGal? Too unexpected!” “Such a great song choice!”

The internet erupted in surprise. “Can we hope for a special ED for Kei-chan in the future?!!!!!” “Does this mean there will also be a special ED for Kei-chan?” Some even commented: “The first mild love triangle was heartwarming, but the special ED lyrics reflecting a strong yet wavering heart are a bit sad.”

After the broadcast, Komura posted: “My heart was really pounding this time!” and later, “Seeing new sides of the two, plus a special ending. A thrilling development. This is… this is… (at a loss for words)”

Konomi Inagaki also wrote: “The dress and yukata were beautiful, I was excited the whole time! I’ve been itching for everyone to hear Ijichi’s special ED. It’s the best!” and added, “The three are getting closer, but I also love the friendship between the two gals! I also like that Kei’s mom is the Ijichi type.”

Yuu Serizawa, voicing Ijichi, couldn’t hide her excitement: “As expected!!!! Episode 6 was insane…!!!! Ijichi’s words, expressions, and the song at the end were a surprise. Is this love!?”

Episode 6 also marked the chief animation director episode for character designer Lion Matsuda. The animation quality stood out, especially in close-up shots, earning praise like “Isn’t the animation in this episode god-tier? The eyecatches were also wonderful” “The animation in OtaGal is so good, it’s amazing” “Seriously, the animation is great” and more.

Matsuda also shared animation materials including eyecatches. He added a side note: “I’ve been a fan of the married couple Tatsuya Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi since childhood, so when I found out, I was so happy I froze for a while thinking ‘Really?!’ I felt like popping a confetti popper!”

It was truly a delightful surprise! Also, the color illustration of the yukata after the broadcast was drawn by Matsuda.

And after the special ED, there was an end card! A two-shot of Otaku-kun and Kei in front of a certain place, overlaid with the text ‘Comiket Participation!!’ The internet went wild: “Next episode is the Comiket episode?” “Is he going… to Comiket…” “Wait, does showing it in the end card mean they’ll do it next time???” “I thought the Comiket part was cut, but seeing one image at the end was nice!” “It feels like the Comiket episode was cut and we got this one image instead…” “I thought the Comiket was cut, but they recovered it in the end card!!” “Will the next episode be the cultural festival?”

Those who have read the original know the timeline of this ‘yukata episode’ and ‘Comiket episode,’ so they were confused: “Is this a photo from when they went to Comiket, or is the next episode the Comiket episode? Which is it?”

That concludes the summary of the sixth period ‘Love?’.

Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!? airs every Wednesday at 23:45 on TV Asahi’s national network ‘IMAnimation W’ and other channels. It will also be available on streaming platforms including d Anime Store and Anime Times (release dates may vary by service).
