The beloved chocolate biscuit snack “Saku Yama Choko Jiro” — celebrating its 10th anniversary this year — has been adapted into an anime, with streaming launching today, May 29, 2026, on the official TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram channels. A main visual has also been released. To commemorate the adaptation and streaming start, the official X (formerly Twitter) account is running a campaign offering a special smartphone wallpaper.
Manufactured and sold by Shoei Delicy, “Saku Yama Choko Jiro” is a bite-sized chocolate biscuit that combines a light, crispy biscuit with chocolate and a milk cream center. Each piece is printed with various expressions and cute poses of the main character Choko Jiro, along with humorous “Cho” puns that bring a smile.
Choko Jiro is a gluttonous “rare beast” living on Chokodale Mountain. One day, a human child visiting the mountain gives him a biscuit. When Choko Jiro tries combining it with chocolate, he is amazed by the delicious taste. Since then, he has taken on the human-like name “Saku Yama Choko Jiro” and travels to spread the joy of the chocolate biscuit. His catchphrase is “～Cho,” and his round, fluffy brown form is an irresistible source of comfort.
The anime follows Choko Jiro as he plays with JK friends “Tomo Cho” and “Non P,” who visit Chokodale Mountain. By mimicking the two girls, Choko Jiro learns human gestures — albeit in his own clumsy and endearing way. The story unfolds as Tomo Cho and Non P can’t help but adore his proud, awkward antics.
To mark the streaming debut, the first batch of 10 episodes has been released at once. Moving forward, two new episodes will be uploaded every Friday on the official TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram channels. The main visual depicts Choko Jiro’s friends on Chokodale Mountain and the urban JK Tomo Cho and Non P watching over him warmly, creating a heartwarming yet lively atmosphere.
The chocolate biscuit product “Saku Yama Choko Jiro” (35g ×12 pack) is priced at ¥2,972, and the “Saku Yama Choko Jiro Secret Acrylic Charm Pouch” (6 types) is ¥880. Prices are as of the time of publication.
